Hola amigos!
So im in the valley of Vinales right now, a shameless tourist trap, but with good reason. The lanscape here is nothing short fo breathtaking. there are caves with underground rivers, where the water is as warm as a swimming pool and you can swim out the other side of the mountain! Im in the mountains, but there are white sand and snorkeling beaches only a 45 minute drive from here! The people are very hospitable, and food is far better than i expected, and the music and dance keeps me up until the wee hours of the morning.
My gf quit her job so she could join me here, and ill be going back to Havana to meet her on the 3rd. Until then, ill be hopping on busses and taking roads less travelled. I met an Austrian dude who got robbed, losing his passport, his money, and basically everything else he needs to survive here. luckily his embassy was able to help him out, and his family able to wire him some more money to last him the trip. Thankfully, Ive had nothing but good experiences (knock on wood). In general, Cuba is a pretty safe country. i was able to stumble home drunk through some of Havanas poorest neighborhoods at 2am without incident. I miss you all (well, some of you, you know who you are), and i will be back just in time for SWIFT NYE MADNESS! so i hope to see you all there! |

we are currently in Baracoa, the first spanish settlement in Cuba, and basically the furthest east you can go.. its totally tropical here, humid as a dogs armpit, and the whole town all but shuts down from 12 - 2 ish for a siesta during the hottest hours of the day... like were really up by then anyways! theres an awesome rooftop bar with an amazing view of the harbour, and the place is refreshingly tourist-thin. going back to Trinidad in a few days for more awesome beaches and nightlife, but not without a stop in Holguin first.
i seriously recommend this country to anyone who wants to travel, its got everything (except toilet seats)! |
