Technical peeps -- Spam
Alrighty peeps... other than Spam Arrest (www.spamarrest.com), what are some of the best Spam Filters out there? I receive a LOT of spam each day... I mean 150+ pieces. It's time to use a filter. Spam Arrest is cool but I'm curious to know what other really good options are out there.
Thoughts? |

That's the thing... SpamArrest is a totally seperate inbox (server side) and guarantees 99.9% success with spam. I would have to switch over my Blackberry, etc. but before making that kind of major change, I just wanted to see what else is out there.
And Adam -- I wish it was from porn. <sigh> It's because my Twisted email is always out there on various sites with full public view to be added to lame lists. |

i find shaw filters things out quite well. i only get 2-3 spam message per week, tops.
you can have your other email forwarded to the shaw account and it all gets filtered. you can also pair that up with gmail and im sure you can forever forget what spam is :) |

as for spam arrest, I could only imagine some of the people who mail me (knowing barely how to send an email) would most likely ignore, delete or forget to confirm their address. a portion of my work clients brave on the computer to peck out details I need and remove themselves from the computer directly after sending. thus not receiving the confirm email spam arrest would send until their next login. |

If you want client-side protection, there are two peer-to-peer spam programs out there: Cloudmark ($35/year subscription required) and No Hawkers - Antispam. They both use peer-to-peer to get updates out very quickly. I have't tried No Hawkers yet, but Cloudmark I have. No Hawkers is free at the moment, so it's worth trying out. Cloudmark has a 15-day trial available as well.

here are more howtos on seting up your server proper to avoid spam. http://www.howtoforge.com/taxonomy/term/24 As someone who works in an industry who sends spam. If you set up your server properly with proper spam filters, you shouldn't receive much. Dont signup for seedy mail lists and you shouldn't get spam. Usually SPAM is because PEBCAK. |
