ladies- a little help
Hiya!
So I'm going to my work's holiday party this weekend and it's got a 'cocktail' dress code. I don't own anything nice to wear, I'm a jeans and sneakers kind of girl, comfort is my main objective when it comes to dressing myself. I want to hear some suggestions about a good place to start looking for something to get because I quite honestly don't want to drop a lot of money on something I'm only likely to wear once until my next xmas party or something like a wedding comes up. |

Le Chateau. They have such a wide selection, and you can get something that is fairly versatile. With that said, my suggestion is the perfect black dress. Something short and flirty. It is by far the most versatile, it is timeless and the sexiest when on. |

I just wouldn't get something that is really trendy right now, ie, layered ruffles or otherwise as you won't wear it again. |

I will allow you two to come to MAC with me if you both promise to behave! :p ps - the layered ruffles were a hypothetical. |

What about a gorgeous vintage piece? I love excuses to wear stunning 1940's/1950's cocktail dresses...and you're just the right size. It won't cost too much and you'll be unique.
I spent $60 on my turquoise 1950's prom dress and everyone absolutely gushed over it all night...not only does it make you feel like an oldschool movie star, it's a conversation piece as well. I see a lot of high-quality, nearly new condition pieces...or at least I did when I went shopping all the time. Try Deluxe Junk, or some smaller vintage boutiques (I'm a bit out of the loop there since I was away). |

i dont know how much you want to spend, but Catherine Regehr has samples on sale.
you can get a nice designer dress for like $150 or so. she has beautiful dresses. her stuido is just accross the bridge on 7th and Granville i think. if you want me to find out more let me know. |

Winners? Mantique? I saw some great cocktail dresses in Hangers at Park Royal the other day.
How about american aparrel? Im sure if you found like a long sleave black dress and then bedazzled the rest of you (belt/neckless/high heels or high boots) you could totaly pull it off and hopfully wear it again. Otherwise I would sugest a really nice top with black slacks or a nice balck skirt. |

now obvoiusly im not "ladies" but i can try and help...
i serve quite a few cocktail parties at a golf and country club and what i see most people wear long dresses or "business" outfits. this is just a thought...the whole mood of the party might be different depending on work and what type of work... |

myra..if u decide to do a 2 piece i have some fancy black/white tops that i wear to work. u can even do a pencil skirt with a nice silky kimomo style shirt... if u want a dress id go to metro town.. urban behavior has TONS of stuff, and the mall also has suzy sheirs, sirens etc.
