i don't think it's tacky if it was something never used... for instance, my dad got this ridiculously expensive fancy BBQ set as a gift for speaking at a conference, and he doesn't BBQ, so gave it to a friend who absolutely loved it. no harm no foul. i've given away bottles of red wine as well (i'm more of a white drinker).

Personal gifts - no. No matter how ugly that sweater is, I'll wear it around the house orwhatever, knowing that my aunt put thought into buying it for me.
Non-personal items are fair game, IMO. For example, I got a Samsung portable DVD player at my company Christmas party and I'm giving it to my little brother for xmas along with some DVDs. I would never use it, but he's going to be thrilled. Gift cards/certificates are ok to regift too, I think, seeing as they can often be impersonal by nature. personally I've never received a GC I couldn't find a use for, but whatever. |

I get a lot of things that I don't need. I got $500 last year to a tonne of restaurants. Some of them were fantastic, some of them, I don't like to eat at. Why be greedy and not share the wealth if I have it? |

i've reused gift bags for gifts
thinking of giving my friend a canucks piggy bank i got for christmas from another friend. why i got it, i still don't know, im not much of a canucks fan. it's probably better to give it to someone who'd enjoy having it. i agree, it's acceptable as long as its something non-personal like wine, gift cards, gift baskets. that kind of stuff is pretty generic. |

would you buy people GCs to those restaurants you don't like to eat at? because if the answer is no, then i'm afraid.... ;)

I've never re-gifted because im a pack rat..and I hold onto things for sentimental value..
HOWEVER, I would definately re-gift something if I couldnt exchange/return and use the money I would have spent on that person buying something else. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. |
