Well it sounds like the family has a pretty legitimate lawsuit against the radio station so they'll probably get more than just a wii from them anyways (not that it would make the situation any better). I do have to wonder though, wouldn't she have felt really unwell and known it was serious and that she should just give up and go to the washroom or even seek medical attention by that point. People can usually tell when something isn't right with their body, kind of like how if you hold your breath too long you get that instinctive panic feeling to take a breath of air.... I mean it's just a video game console for christ's sake it's really not worth all of that.

Thats sad. the mom was trying to do something nice for her kids. Must be a nightmare for the kids.. I'm sure they really wanted that Wii.
seriously though, I hope everything works out for the family. edit Wii happens to be an acrynom for "water intoxication investigation".. |

I also wondered how she could not have felt that she was doing herself bad by drinking so much water...
Although, keeping in mind that society gets dumber by the year, I'm actually not surprised that a person would not listen to his or her own bodily needs and instead do only what the mind wants... and the mind is contaminated with such illnesses like obsessive compulsive and major depressive disorders, etc. etc. One something like this was bound to happen, and it did. Even though this is the first of its kind, I'm sure that there will be other deaths, even more fucked up than this one because of how badly mankind is degrading over the years. |

i think the contest was kind of silly to begin with but then again a lot of radio contests are not well thoughtout and are retarted.
you have to blame the radio station for putting on such a irresponsible contest but then again you have to blame the contestants for signing up to do such a idiotic thing to win a Wii. moving along, how are the radio dj's held responsible when the contestant who died signed a release form? "Yeah, they signed releases, so we're not responsible. We're OK." as for not being warned about the risk of trying to win the contest, really are they that stupid? if you are going to take part in a contest as stupid as this one was, wouldn't you do a little research before you tried doing something so stupid? "I felt drunk and really out of it," she said. personally that would have been my sign to quit DRINKING the water, but i guess she REALLY wanted that Wii. it's sad that a little contest to try and win a Wii turned out to be like this but really, people need to start using their brains a little bit and man up to their own actions. I listen to the radio at work everyday and they were talking about this all day the other day.
Definatly unfortunate and sad to hear. I guess hyperhydration isnt a thing most people know or whould think about. But I would think if you were to hold a contest like the one they held, they would have looked into something like that? |

uhmm .... are you just retarded or did you not read the part where I said a lawsuit WILL NOT make the situation better but at least the radio station will have to take some sort of responsibility?!!!

^^ yeah, I really wonder what she was thinking to continue with it even though she must not have felt okay. I don't think the radio station is completely at fault, but they should have done more research on the dangers of the contest so they could make the contestants more aware of them. Just because they had them sign a release form doesn't mean they shouldn't be held accountable to some extent.

When you think about it, that family is now going to have to pay for a funeral and everything else that comes along with it (a family member dying is NOT cheap) ... especially being that the father is a single parent now, a bit of money from the radio station is the least they could do to help them along the way now... seeing as how it's partly because of their contest that the mum has died. I really hope they just step up to the plate a little bit. :(

Anyone who was into raves in their youth (ie a good chunk of this board) would know about it. There were so many horror stories about the girl on e who was scared about dehydration so drank too much water and died. It made perfect sense to me when I heard about it. lol kinda funny that... |
