For many reasons including his diplomacy, encounters with q and battle and winning against the borg.

He may not have always gone down to the surface and trenches like kirk but when his ship got taken over. Or when the crew were being turned into pre-evolved forms of themselves he always took over. Though mostly with the help of data haha

picard had a double life in wich he raised two kids and learnd to play a flute.

If were going to be getting into things like this - Sisko and the crew of the downed defient completely repopulated an entire planet!!!! He was also sucked out of phase with time, and survived!
