I really couldn't make this shit up even if I wanted to (okay so I jazzed up the title).

Israel is using nanotechnology to try to create a robot no bigger than a hornet that would be able to chase, photograph and kill its targets, an Israeli newspaper reported on Friday.

The flying robot, nicknamed the "bionic hornet," would be able to navigate its way down narrow alleyways to target otherwise unreachable enemies such as rocket launchers, the daily Yedioth Ahronoth said.

It is one of several weapons being developed by scientists to combat militants, it said. Others include super gloves that would give the user the strength of a "bionic man" and miniature sensors to detect suicide bombers.

Prototypes for the new weapons are expected within three years, he said.

I knew many years ago when the US started pouring billions into nanotechnology that this was going to get ugly military wise.

The military's new weapon is a ray gun that shoots a beam that makes people feel as if they will catch fire.

The technology is supposed to be harmless — a non-lethal way to get enemies to drop their weapons.

Nothing says harmless like 95 GHz and 130 degrees of scorching heat! There's no way someone would possibly use this for longer than the recommended 2 seconds, I mean c'mon, wars are fought fair and square afterall.

I just can't get upset about this.
It's about time we got back on track and got a leg up on the rest of the world. Given the attitudes of some nations "mutually assured destruction" just won't cut it forever.
Personally I can't wait to see the big brother version. I imagine we could
strap it to our satellites (missle defence?).
