It's smartphone/pda/blackberry time!!
Okay so I've decided to upgrade.. just starting to do research now.. here's what I'm looking for:
-Expandable memory **** definately need this, to 1-2 gb if possible -Quad band -Email (obviously) -I almost like the more bulky style (blackberry 8700) to the smart phones that are as small as regular cell phones.. so something in the middle would be nice -mp3 player would be nice -don't really need a camera -bluetooth All for around $200 (probably will have to be used for that price) Any ideas? Looking at Australian, UK and asian phones as well. So, anything goes really. |

you won't ever pay 200 for a data device brand new.
most companies will offer you a pretty decent price reduction on a data device (that would be if you were purchasing directly from roger's/telus/bell) but you'd have to get a 3 yr contract and a data plan (and never take it off!). Also, are you prepared to pay at least 100 a month for a plan alone (taking into consideration a voice/data package)? Then take into consideration any overages for roaming, airtime, ld, etc. IMO having a data device that you use for voice/data is expensive, it's only really worth it if you have to use it for work, and if your employer foots some/all of the bill. |

I've got a UTStartcom 6700 I got off telus for $250 w/2yr contract. It's super stupid powerful for a pocket PC but to be honest, it's a freakin' brick. If you need a powerful PDA and a phone its the way to go tho. The Moto Q is resonably compact but slows down a lot. Perhaps wait for the HTC Athena to drop.

Okay well I certainly wouldn't want to buy a phone through rogers or whatever with a huge contract - I think I didn't explain myself enough.
I want to buy an unlocked phone, used, and then get a voice/data plan for it. I did not want to buy one through rogers, telus, whatever. My question was, if I was to look on ebay for instance for a phone with the specifications above, what would I look for? I know I get get most of those things for around 200-250 on ebay.. especially from phones from the UK (and yes I understand some phones won't work over here if their set up for a uk service) |
