marijuana and BC's economy

So through the 70's and 80's Miami grew from a small southern city into a modern metropolis and this was financed nearly exclusively from Cocaine profits. Literally billions of cocaine profits were funneled into the local economy.

Now what I wonder is how much marijuana money is going to the local economy both here in Vancouver and BC at large.

Ever since the strains being experimented with at UBC were introduced into BC's black market, our economy began to benefit so much from it. We have bragging rights over every stoner in the world outside of our province because of three major factors: our perfect growing climate in the south, we're the most progressive, easy going province in Canada, and our bud is spliced with strains made in a laboratory at UBC.

Our bud sells for upwards of $60/eighth in Alberta right now. It's fucking unbelievable.

To say marijuana doesn't benefit our economy as our largest cash crop is ignoring some serious facts.

for one, marijuana is BC's biggest export, with I think over a billion in revenue a year.

second, I've never heard of the strain from UBC which made BC bud the best, because it's not necessarily the case. One of the main reasons why BC Bud is the best is because of the quality of water.

pot going for $60/eighth is Alberta is nothing, considering it's going for 6k a lb in TX, and close to 8k in FL, which is why our exporting it is making our economy boom.

If we legalize it we're all doomed.

what more is there here? people make, grow & sell drugs. that money gets pumped back into the economy through different means, such as buying items or (as pointed out above) business fronts.

I'm not saying he is not right - because what he said is completely true. I was only throwing the benefit of doubt onto the world's governments and the possibly illegal production/trading/selling of drugs. You can't trust a single government that has the power to produce drugs (which they all do), and then doing something illegal with them.

i doubt we'd be alberta without the pot... i mean yeah weed's pretty big here, but what about all the rich asian businessmen that lend residence here?

Yeah, I know it goes for a lot in the states, but I'm assuming the majority of growers in BC don't risk shipping over the border. It has become near impossible to the average joe. What I was getting at is our neighboring province buys eighths for three times what you guys are paying down there.

As for the UBC strain, it's completely true. Go pick up any seed catalogue at a head shop and you'll see "strain/UBC" meaning it's been spliced with one of those strains I was talking about.
