Food Gems that arn't so common - list yours

Saganaki - Greek appetizer... it's a big square of cheese, and they bring it out to you still on the pan and they set it on fire and put it on your table.. you put out the fire by squeezing lemon on it.... pan fried cheese and it's fucking incredible

Mast o kheur(sp?) - Persian appetizer/side dish to go with food - It's basically just yogurt with diced up cucumbers inside and some type of herb.. dunno the name

Chicken tandoori - Indian food - Really good

Korean bbq egg thing - Korean food - Don't know the name of this.. but i'm sure if you explain what it is, they will easily know... it basically comes in a pho bowl, and it's rice + vegetables on the bottom.... then pork/chicken or whatever you ordered on top.. and then on top of that it's a fried egg... It's amazing

Salad roll - vietnamese - It is in the shape of a fat spring roll, but it's rolled up rice and it has shrimp in it, and it comes with this peanut butter type of dipping sauce.. really good and you can get it at every pho place

Ice Coffee - vietnamese - you get 2 cups that come out.. 1 is an empty cup with a metal thing on top that slowly drips the coffee into the empty up... and the other is a glass filled to the top with ice... once the coffee finishes pouring into the empty glass (about 10 mins) you stir it and make sure you get all the cream off the sides.. and then you dump that into the glass that's filled to the top with ice... it's amazing and it doesn't compare to any other cold coffee drinks.. it's a different taste all together

cutlet/cotlet - polish - they look like beef patties but they arn't... i don't know the exact ingredients but ask one of your polish friends, haha... they are amazing and you can eat them by themselves or with bread

Large fava beans (canned) You get a big can of these things.. and you pour it into a pot (including the juice/water in it) and you heat it till it starts boiling then take it off and enjoy... it's like a finger food.... you can either eat the beans with the skin still on them, or without.... extremely addicting :)

Noon o paneer - persian - persian style feta cheese inbetween bread, also some greens and served with tea

I live on my own, and am extremely lazy so i end up eating out 3 times a day... love to try new foods so share your suggestions

a cutlet/kotlet is the same in polish and in most other countries, it doesn't have to be beef, it's just a cut of meat (ei pork, chicken etc) breaded and pan fried.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutlet

this is my favorite, but it never tastes as good when I make it. miss my mom's cooking...

the time it takes you to go out, eat, then return is more then likely longer then it would be to prepare your own meal, plus probably exerts more energy. silly donkey.

my suggestion is roti chani.

and khav kalash.

if you can ever make it out for el salvadorian food, pupusas are really yummy, they are little tortillas stuffed with things like meat, cheese, beans, etc.

There's this really good place on like commercial and 5th that has them, they are 3 dollars each and really yummy. i'm full after like two of them.

i like to grab whatever weird stuff is in season.. pomegranate, blood orange, blueberry, etc. peel or juice it if necessary, and freeze it for later use. its nice to be able to still have that stuff when you cant get it anywhere.

oh and theres a thai place on denman thats really good and always empty..

El Rinconcito, I love that place! It's funny because my hubby and I are going there tonight for dinner. I haven't had pupusas in such a long time and theirs are so authentic and yummy... I also like platanos fritos which is fried plantains with rice... total comfort foods mmmmmmmm I can't wait!

I've been on an African kick again lately. I made mafe this week. It's Senegalese....basically a chicken stew with potatoes, tomato, peanut butter, chili, and thyme served on rice. so yummy!

There's an Ethiopian place on Commercial called Harambe that I keep meaning to try.

The stuff i miss from Italy is good gnocci. Also the arancinas, rice balls with a cheeze center and breaded outside. Desert liquers like grappa. The bruschetta platters, tomato toppings, salmon, olive paste etc etc

I've tried it @ that Russian place on Broadway @ Cambie (friend works there).
Just not as good.

Same goes for jerk!

Or, a really good curry chicken roti!

BB's Roti Hut used to be the BOMB!, but, she went and got preggers and shut the place down.
Dammit!

Frosty

Langos (Hungarian doughnut like goodness) I can only find it once a year and it is such a treat when I do!

And of course I have it the sweet way with cinnamon & sugar, I don't waste my time on the savoury.

i made a coconut chicken tandoori masaya wraps one night for this girl i was dating in ontairo.

i made them from scratch from a recipe i found off the net. holy jesus they were good!

people, if you got a day off and nothing to do, go on the net, find a recipe for something you would never picture yourself making, go get the ingredients, and do it up! trust me, you will not be disappointed!

Just don't eat the live octopi and if you see a red paste, be careful. It's very hot! :) Other than that, you'll be fine. Enjoy the BBQ stuff!

Also... I :love1: borscht. Homemade is the bomb! And I make this spicy Thai seafood/vege stirfry with coconut milk that is awesome.

PS... hungry now :(
