Why not?
When at his best Forberg is one of the best players of the last decade. He also didn't just go to some weak team. Or some eastern team. He went to Nashville who leads the western conference and is a point behind for 1st in the league. Nashville is as good a team as any, and they are in our conference. |

I dunno last i heard Forberg already played in his first game in nashville.
He is playing with Kariya and Erat who are both solid players. Even if Forsberg only last this one season. It might be enough for them in the playoff's. Philly did not get the better deal. The Draft picks may help them in the later years but other than that they got J.P Dumont. Thats it. Simon Gagne lost his setup man. Philly will never win unless they change their whole managment. Giving more power to bobby clark was about as stupid of an idea as i've ever heard in my life. |

J.P Dumont is no Forsberg. Do you think the Flyers wanted Forsberg to go. Hell no their fans didn't . Their whole organisation didn't, but they knew its what he wanted. Gagne lost his linemate. edit: I forgot about Parent going there to Philly too. Good on him but no one knows how well he will play in the NHL especially on a weak team like the lowely Flyers. I still think Nashville got better cause now Instead of Kariya,Legwand and Erat. You get Forsberg centering Kariya and Erat while legwand than centers another line Last edited by KenJi; Feb 18, 07 at 06:29 PM. |

^ I am not arguing the fact that Peter is not a star player. What I am instigating is the fact that Peter has a foot problem that is not going away or is not getting any better. Sure, he may play it out till the end of this season. But do we know what will happen to him next year? Will he retire and go back to Sweden? What if he got injured?
For the long term, it is better to get healthy players and play on that. Every season it is about getting into the playoffs. Vancouver armed itself with a whicked goalie. But what happens AFTER the playoffs are over? Honestly, I can't see Nashville winning the Stanley Cup with or without Forsberg. With all due respects to Kariya and Erat, and their scoring talent, there are also other teams with just as much calibre in their roster. I see it as a quick fix to get a "star" player on their end. We know the Canucks also looked at him, but why wouldn't they budge on him? Ask yourself this: Is Forsberg worth the $5.75 million figure based on his stats? He is playing well, posting 12 points in 9 games since the all-star break, but moving out to Nashville may also shake up the former captain. Irrelevent note: I think to even out the trade, Clarke should throw in the towel, or be traded himself. He is not making things any better. However, he did land some future prospects on his end. But will he be around long enough should the Flyers not make the playoffs? We'll see. I can't see them in the playoffs. When the NHL comes in on the trading, we will have to see what happens, and until then...we can only observe the players in their post-partum roles. :mexitoke: Last edited by Antenna_Boy; Feb 19, 07 at 12:59 AM. |

^ You do know that bobby clark isn't the GM of the Flyers anymore rite??
Do you honestly think the Flyers got any better? I think not. Unless parent turns into a phenomenal player I just can't see how well losing a player like forsberg is. Injury or not. Look at Jagr. He was injured. Not playing well either before his move to the rangers. He had the same problems as Forsberg because of the abuse his upper and lower body have taken. What if he does retire next year? Nashville didn't exactly give up anyone of their core members. Also throw in this to match you bertuzzi/luongo vs the forsberg deal. One bertuzzi went to the lowely florida panthers and we got a killer goalie who was already known to be a star playing on a pathetic team. Forsberg went from the lowely flyers to a talent filled nashville who is righ up there at the top of the league, and I can see them winning the cup if Vokoun can get hot throughout the playoff's. They have enough speed to give any team trouble. Thats their weapon more than their offense. Its their speed they kill you with. Dude look at the stats of ANYONE on the flyers and tell me who would have good stats. There is not one player that is a + player on the flyers. Nobody knows how well Forsberg will do, but I really think it was a good move for Nashville. Vancouver was actually offering up Alexander Edler and some players too. Edler and the players + 1st round draft pick is like offering some out future players to the flyers for forsberg. Don't say we didn't budge on them. Almost every GM was trying to pull a deadline deal for forsberg. Injured ankle or not |

^ if u listened to sportsnet that 1040 talk show. Nonis was interested in getting forsberg as was most GM's.
Just the preds jumped the gun first and offered a pretty good player *ryan parent*. Don't forget even without getting many points. One thing Forsberg does have is experience in the playoff's. Getting to the finals and winning the cup twice. The only other player to get that far *without winning* was Kariya when he was with Anaheim in 2003. I am still putting my money that in the end this will be a good trade for Nashville. I could be wrong though. |
