My first day of college...
well.. it's not a long course, but it's the first education I've taken since I dropped out of highschool in grade 9. I'm training to become a medic and I have to say, I really wish I didn't take learning for granted when I was younger. I had a blast and the instructor said I'm doing better than most adults do.
So far I've learned the Priority Action Assessment, as well as how do address soft wound injuries. Tomorrow we get to play with oxygen haha. I think I'm going to take some upgrade courses after this and get my Grade 12 so I can study music next year. The only downside is I woke up at 3am covered in homework and textbooks and can't get back to sleep. |

Not so much CPR standards as it is the lack of procedures for your equivalent to my Priority Action Assessment. We haven't gotten into CPR yet.. that's Monday.
Our primary assessment involves both confirming open air passage and pulse presence as well as ensuring that it is sufficient to continue without critical status intervention. Red Cross, I'm told, only trains to check for pulse and breathing without actually making sure it's sufficient. Also, there is issues with the moving of a body without proper C-Spine support. This could lead to paralysis. I understand that your procedure has a lot to do with the fact that they're in water, but again.. this is all what I was told in casual conversation with my instructor. This is why you call an ambulance and don't move the body yourself, whereas I will have my Transport Endorsement once I'm done. I actually spent about 4 hours learning about RTC procedure today. Even got myself an oxygen fix while they strapped me in haha. |

Good for you Hippy! I am sure you will do awesome =)
I would love to go back to school. I am really interested in Horticulture..but If I ever go back to school I want to have money saved up to pay for it. I am never getting student loans again. |

Yeah being swamped with school work is probably the worst feeling ever. I was taking 6 courses while working and could barely stomach it. I dropped outta business and am now gunna do a course to become a coast guard.
Only advice is to not get cocky and miss classes because it's eaaasy to miss valuable info. |

Slick! As of today my time from the Scene Assessment to transport for a patient that qualifies for Rapid Transport Category is 17 minutes. The maximum allowed is 15 minutes, including any critical interventions required.
Considering I still have another week and a half of constant practice, I should be down to well under the limit. Oh, and on Monday I get to learn how to use a defibrilator haha. "CLEAR!" |

Just did my written final today. Feeling pretty confident. I have 5 hours of drills this afternoon and then I go in for my practical tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well.

30, actually. They just recently changed the ratio to 30:2. You're now off the chest for only about 9% of the time. The 15:2 ratio didn't actually do much for the heart because you only spent about a 1 minute and 7 seconds doing compressions over the course of 4 and a half minutes. The logic is that the first four minutes are the most important as the heart is still moving consistently... then from 8-12 minutes you see the pulse start to become more inconsistent and then after 12 minutes it reaches asystole (flat-line). Three minutes on the heart at 15 compression intervals doesn't really do much to prepare the heart to work on it's own again. Which is a good thing because it took me forever to figure out what came after 22. :P |
