i used to work for an east indian cattering company that did wedding banquets and other events. working on sundays after raving it up saturday nights was always fun, especially with the music. it was also fun seeing the depressed arranged brides.
it was really nither good nor bad, just a job to make money to send on e bombs and raver pants. |

BUT don't work for one of those companies that hires you and then contracts you out. You get paid $9 an hour and the company/ kind of like your agent will keep the tips and the rest of your pay for getting you the work. It is good in one way... it gets your foot in the door. If you don't have tons of experience it is hard to get into. Plus carrying the huge trays and serving a hundred tables at once with 8 other servers is super lame. I found anyways. Also need to know proper settings for tables and the exact ways to serve or youll be gone so quick. |

get a job working at a sports bar.You wont have to wear a gay ass tuxedo shirt and look like a chump or carry big ass trays full of food or have to deal with pompous assholes.
plus, the tips will be mad wicked...the hours wont suck that bad,AND your customers will drink you up once your shift is done. |

1. These are called Placement Agencies. If you work for one of them chances are you are the last one on duty for a shift and the first to get cut after desert is cleared. aka 4 hour shifts. It's also a great way to gain experience in the industry and make contacts with hotels... if they like you, they might hire you on full time. The hotel pays their regular staff about $12 an hour depending on experience etc... When they need a few extra hands, they hire from Placement Agencies who charge $17ish an hour of which the emplyee sees $9-$11 for those 4 hour shifts. Pooled tips get paid out based on hours worked and if the placement agency kept all tips owed to its staff then you were working for a chump boss. 2. Most hotels & reception halls actually train people to know Silver Service ettiquette. All you have to do is learn & remember. It's not like complexe algorithms ... it's silverware & plates & serve from the right. lol |
