fantasy novels
anyone else on this board read this stuff?
my favorites are the song of ice and fire series by george r.r. martin and robert jordan's wheel of time series. anyone who likes to read books, whether into romance or horror or whatever, i think could get into these stories. |

I used to read a lot of R.A. Salvatore and Hickman & Weis (not just their D&D novels but other works as well). Kinda lost touch with it, though, once I discovered Acid House Literature.
Oh, and of course, Tolkien. Heh...can't forget the granddaddy of 'em all ^_^ |

three rings for the elven-kings under the sky,
seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone, nine for mortal men doomed to die, one for the dark lord on his dark throne in the land of mordor where shadows lie. one ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them in the land of mordor where shadows lie. i love that saying...anyways ollie...before you go any further...my last name is spelt MORTEN...we are not some common morton family...sheesh. sword of truth is good, and hickman and weis have several other good series besides the dragonlance stuff...but i'm more into historical military fiction right now...although i am reading dune house harkonnen now... dune is the lord of the rings of sci fi man. |

much better series. what bothers me about goodkind is that he tries to make up for all his cornyness with brutal violence. if u like the violence then read a game of thrones. the wheel of time starts out with a lot of fun, kinda innocent but gradually over the course of the first seven books turns into a fantasy/horror. it's sweet.

The Death Gate 7 book series is fantastic D&D type fantasy while their space novels, Star of the Guardians and Mag Force, are good reading as well. You can also pick up Orson Scott Card's Ender series. Very well written as well. |

ooo, I love reading sci-fi/fantasy novels!
Started reading Elvenbane - Halfblood series by Andre Norton, Mercedes Lackey Really Good. Finished one called Blood Music - Greg Bear. Quite intense! Piers Anthony, his Xanth series are all worth reading. Puny and satrical. Harry Harrison's The Stainless Steel Rat series is another. Robert Asprin's M.Y.T.H Series and Phule series is wonderful. :D |

oh ya i am neither scrubby nor nerdy.
ok after work in the morning i can look pretty scrubby some times. but it has nothing to do with fantasy reading. what is the thing with fantasy? sort of what u said bob. an escape from reality. doesn't mean the person is unhappy with their life, it's just that anything can happen in a fantasy novel. i can't understand how someone could read the shit and not write it though. when it comes to my books i like the huge complex story lines with many many different characters. |
