Reaching In, Reaching Out
Tell me what you guys think...
I think it's time for us F&K Members to reach within ourselves and reach out to actively help others. I have two ideas for the time being. I think we should do both of them, but it's your guys' call, cause it takes everyone's effort to make this work. :027: Idea #1: Sponsor a Child We can sponsor a child in a third world country for a mere $30 a month. I worked all last summer to save up and sponsor a little boy who lives in Sri Lanka. (he's a real cutie!!) We spend so much money on useless things, and I really feel that each one of you could spare a loonie every month. That's about 3 cents a day, but those 3 cents will help us to be able to make one little child's life a LOT better. If each of us committed to donating that dollar a month, we might be able to sponsor even more than one child. Maybe one boy and one girl...? Let me know what you guys think. If it's a go, then I'll start making the arrangements. But it has to be a complete committment and promise from each of you to give that dollar every month, otherwise I'll prolly be the one cleaning up the bill, and I can't afford to do that, since I already have a child of my own. :027: Idea #2: F&K Meet @ the Soup Kitchen Every so often, I go volunteer downtown at a soup kitchen. Sometimes I volunteer indoors, and other times, I help out outdoors on E. Hastings. No, not the prettiest sight to see, but it's the reality of many people's lives every day. You just do things like serve food, help clean up, move things, talk to people, etc. I'm not sure if they're doing the street thingie anymore, cause I think they opened a new center indoors, but I could find that out if you are interested. Alrightie...tell me what you guys think. Reach in and reach out.

i think it's a good idea!
the soup kitchen one seems better tho. i mean it'd be great to sponsor a child or two... but do you know how much money actually gets to the child itself? it's something $0.05 or every dollar or summin?? the rest goes to paying the wages and all taht stuff of those who get it there adn what not..and yes i know it sitll is something. i found this out from a teacher at my school..since we sponsor some kids i think and my science teacher wanted to..she was going to make it so that everytime we were late *which was alot of us all teh time* we'd pay a quarter and then it would go to sponsor a child..but it didn't seem tow orth it. but i'm not sure. they're not the only things we could do..but i like the idea...

does someone want to sponsor me? i'm broke. i'm cute. come on. i know you want to. i will provide for you entertainment. and whatever else you want. *wink wink* jk. i'm getting a job.. off my sorry ass.. lala.
i might be interested. i never do anything to help anyways. i dunno. i dont think helping others will really do anything for me. plus i have no way to get down there most the time anyways. keep us updated anyways.

that is if I'm going with a buddie.. like you know the bathroom buddie thing when we were younger... okay.. yeah... I would be so IN.. but me a broke girl so don't htink I can do the #1.. maybe not right now.. but I want to do that when I am older

with either of them...i can spare a dollar!!
such a sweet idea... i've done things like that... with this group iwas part of a while back, we made a bunch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and then gave it to a homeless shelter...we also had a cookie bake-a-thon...and we baked cookies all night and made pledge forms to raise money as well! the cookies went to a women's shelter, and we got the supplies donated to us by safeway..(i believe)

We can't do #2 until we get everyone that wants to help out a F-K T-shirt or something. Gotta advertise you know.
Anyone want to sport a thong during this soup kitchen thing? Gotta do this big, get some free TV time on the news and look like heros in the process!

but erica, i am totally willing to help. for real. i have been thinking of doing something like that for a long time... but i procrastinate and tend to just THINK about things, not do them. so i'd love to help out i believe you still have my number, if not just icq me and let me know what's going on!:027:
