home sound systems
i wanna invest in a really good sounding speaker system mainly for monitoring and producing....
so i'm gonna be spending a good sum of cash on this so anyone wanna recommend what will really deliver extra clear sound with sharp sounding bass? |

For staright monitors you can get some powered Alesis Mark II's. Pretty neautral sound for that purpose.
If you are going to use it as an all around speaker the Energy eXL series is the best bang for the buck IMO. I bought them for my home theatre (eXL 26's for the mains, 16's for the rear and C2 centre channel) and it rocks and when playing music they image very well. The 26's go down to about 60Hz which isn't bad for a tower speaker. I fill out the bottom end with an active 10 inch Tannoy sub. |

what i'm looking for is bass that shakes my body but i can really hear the bassline without any droning
very sharp, non ear threatening treble and clear mid ranges. i might even get a 4 way speaker if it means clearing more defined sound. i'm not really looking for volume... i want damn amazingly crystal clear sound... mc hammered those speaker sets you've listed... whats the price ranges? =) |

I'm pretty much an audiophile and the eXL's do the job very well for the price. I've auditioned other makes of speakers and for the price the Energy brand can't be beat. Canadian made product too! You can check them out at www.energy-speakers.com If you go to A&B Seymour they have a good selection of speakers. Demo the Mission and Dynaudio lines as well. They do sound good but they are much more expensive. The Soundroom and Sound Plus are good places to go check out high end speakers as well. Make sure you have enough power to run the speakers! There is nothing worse than underpowering a good speaker, your staging will not be as good. If you want some serious bass then the only way to go is with a dedicated sound processor which will split out the low pass signal and then pipe it into a pair of 15" active subs. If you have the money go buy the Velodyne 15" active servo model. It'll shake the foundation of your house if you turn it up loud enough. I watched Jurrasic Park at my friends house and he had one, I swore the walls were trembling when the T-Rex ran by. |

The $2000 price tag was for all 5 speakers without the sub, if you are just looking for a stereo image then just pick up the eXL 26's (tower) or a set of eXL 16's (bookshelf) and an active sub if you need the bass.
That'll should be under $1000 for either solution. |
