dude. get your head out of your ass! =) haha. trance is still being produced frantically. there are tons of new trance releases everywhere all the time. it is arguably the most "popular" genre, more likely just behind house in terms of audience and records released.

trance is far from dead. tho alot of vocal ppl in the vancouver scene don't appreciate it, that doesnt mean its dead.

Filo is on a distinguished road
I can see the up and coming age of DJing will be through digital mediums which will end take away from the thrill of hunting for that one vinyl NO ONE has. Ahhhhhh well. I guess ppl will just have to produce something themselves if they want something no one has. Oh yeah, i want to be one too.

Hey Nolan, so what exactly would 'being original' be then?

Hmm.. Guess it wouldn't be jungle eh? Pretty sure he means "do your own thing and be innovative", though I have been wrong in these matters before.

I wanna be a MC.. Oh wait, I am!

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion... here is mine:

There are DJ's that simply spin other peoples music (like me - I spin other producers breaks) -- I remember what Cliff Vermette once said to me, much respect to him to: "I just play rekids, that's all it is." Don't get me wrong now... there are people with MAD skillz behind the decks, I mean, look at Flave from Seattle... insane!

Now there are those that produce... now this is some real talent. -- These are the people that are shaping the music we listen to today. A ton of wicked producers live in Vancouver alone and are signed to some very significant labels. I hope one day to learn to produce as well.

The comment was made be original... what better way to do that than to produce your own style of the music you love? Be it Trance, Breaks or whatever.

That's my two bits.

Peace.

and whatever i love trance, and im gonna spin it popular or not..
id like to get booked more..but if im stuck in my basement listenin to "dead" music.. ill still be happy.. :power-p:
/me flails away to the trance..
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with people liking any music they like (imo). However as a DJ if you want to get booked to play out you have play music people want to hear. End of story.

A perfect example of how it's easy to take what is typed on the internet out context. I wasn't talking about trance music on a global basis and whether or not it is popular. I speaking in the context of trance DJ's in Vancouver not getting booked. While there is a bit of trance played at the "rave" parties there is virtually none played in the club scene. Of course there is the odd exception (23 West on Fridays...) but for the most part it seems to me that the popularity of trance in the past (IN VANCOUVER) has done it a disservice now.

Clear?

i couldnt disagree with you more

play what you want to hear. persue the sound you like. and maybe after your hard work, youLL get the masses into your sound.

if playing out is more important than the music you personally love, then you shouldnt get any respect as a dj.

Well as for actually being original part of the problem is that DJing just isn't. It's like a boy band calling themselves original... Not that I don't enjoy watch a good DJ there just isn't anything that original about it. That is why so many people have gotten into producing I think.
