oh oh another question haha

mmk so this is probably mainly for girls but guys can make their opinions also...i was just wondering what u think about models in magazines and air brushing the women..dont u think they should be natural? i mean if they were picked to be models then they should be naturally beautiful right? and do u think it puts pressure on teenage girls these days? and to fit this topic in with guys...do u like to see girls who are absolutely perfect? or would u like to at least see some flaws?

people who read (or just look at the pictures) those magazines don't want to see flaws, that's why they buy them in the first place.

well....dont u think it puts a lot of pressure on teenage girls these days? i mean, what goes on in their minds, they probably think they're supposed to be anorexic and have no flaws..and think less of themselves... jamie lee curtis did a really good thing when she put a picture out of herself without being airbrushed...and a lot of people actually bought the magazine just to read about it..and helped a lot of teen girls about being less self concious about themselves....but hey its just my opinion :)

If a person has low self esteem, there isn't much one can do with the media to change that fact.

All the 'realistic' pictures in the world can't do a thing as one has to want to change before anything can be done.

This does sound corny, but beauty IS skin deep. I know many beautiful people with nothing to follow that up with.

Unfortunetly perfection is what sells. Airbrushing is a common thing though. Almost all major picture shoots do it.

Amatuer photography is the only way you can see art without being airbrushed.

Global will become famous soon enough
First of all beauty is NOT skin deep. I know many girls who are physically pleasing yet are so stuck up I want to punch them.
Those girls are ugly people. Beauty is all around and is given away mostly though the eyes.
Secondly I am soooooo sick of people's obsession with perfection.
Everyone now days pitches their voice in singing to make it hit the "perfect note" or airbrushes themselves to take just that extra inch off or so they can have perfect skin but it's all so much of the same thing that it gets repetitive and boring.
Our society is trying to make everyone and everthing the same and I for one am sickened by it.
From ONE guys perspective Nature is Beautiful and Beauty is Natural. You can't fake something like that.....

peace

sure there's lots of controversy about models and tv stars and the influence they have on teens and whatnot, but it sells... the whole airbrushing thing is just marketing.... and those who get obsessed with image piss me off~
to me being beautiful is loving yourself for _what you are_... you can change your appearance all you want but it's not gonna change who you are inside and I think a lotta people have the idea that if they have looks they have it all~ it's SO not like that..... to me a unique personality is way more important that the way someone looks~ and I like people who dare to be themselves(have their own style, attitude, etc..) and not follow the crowd~ it makes society more interesting

Society has always sold an idealized form of the female back to them. I think it's all relative to when, and what is appealing at that point in time. Hell, women in art in the high rennaisance with cellulite and these volluptuous (sp?) curves were considered stunning (because obviously, they had enough money to feed themselves well).

It all changes throughout the ages, and nobody can help that. Images of the ideal women have always been flashed in our faces in one medium or another.

I agree with MC Hammered, extremely low and potentially dangerous self esteem comes from within.Even if models weren't a size two and airbrushed, some people would still be obesessing over their bodies.

Of course beauty comes from within, the sad part is a lot of people spend their whole lives not knowing this, being ill with eating disorders.

that was a ramble..heh

Wow... these are some great responses.

Should companies be allowed to airbrush models in magazines?
- Well it is a free world, they can do whatever they want... it is there magazine! Most of those models are in the men's manazines anyways... Just as in all those girly magazines that the guys are airbrushed up as well. They do what is necessary to sell more magazines and thus increase readership.

The same of magazines could be said about movies/movie stars. Do you think that movie stars look as good as they do on screen as they do off? I don't think so! That is the magic of the make-up artists behind the scenes and the wardrobe people that dress them that make the stars that some idolize the icons they are.

It's funny how what is deemed as perfection is more societies (and I mean the mass of society not necessarily everyone) perception on what perfection or attractive is. A lot of us as general consumers are influenced by these icons in the media to be more like them. As individuals it is our choice at how much we let these influences effect us... Some of us are strong and very confident in what we are and can offer, others are not and are searching for things they like and then will do whatever it takes to be like that...

That's my two bits!

Some times airbrushing is needed. The girl could have a great look and be what the magazine is looking for but maybe a tiny scare or skin that is a little lighter in certain areas air brushing helps tone those flaws. My sister dose modeling and she bruises so easily airbrushing helps get rid of that when doing a shoot.

Airbrushing dosnt change a persones look just helps clean up the flaws a bit. Makup is sort of the same idea.
Models where makup i wear makup almost all girls do, dose it make them more atractive sometimes but its almost like an accesory. I give 2 thumbs up for it.

As for the presure on teens.........
There are attractive people all over the world most not even models they walk down the streets every day. Those people could "technically" be applying presure.

You want presure LOL try having a younger sister with legs up to her neck a coka cola bottle figure, that all your friend beg to be hooked up with. Bwahaahahahah Right Kraig?

:)

There's always a different image of perfection though!

Look at the women who modeled/were considered beautiful in the 1920s through 50s? They were all curvy.

I think we all know what ruined everything for the world of modelling...and that is Twiggy, the ultrafamous, ultrathin waif of the 1960s.
