class 5 license test?

i know its kinda pointles to get it since i can drive with my n forever, but i can go get my class 5 now and im thinkin of doing it soon so that i can go out have a beer or two wtih my buddies and not have to worry about a month suspension.

do they still make you keep hands on 10 and 2 and all that basic shit like for your n?
or do they ignore that and just focus on highway driving and what-not

From what I understand, it's just to ensure that you haven't developed any bad habits such as not keeping your hands on 10 and 2. I think it's pretty much the same as the Class 7 test, but maybe longer.

They also wanna make sure that you aren gonna end up going 167 in a 50 zone.

another eight months and i'll automatically get my class five. If you have your N for five years, just just automatically give it to you. I don't think there's any point in my taking the road test.

Esi, there's no way you can automatically get your class 5. I looked on the icbc site and couldn't find any info about this, so I e-mailed them, this is what I got in reply:

"A Class 5 licence is not automatically granted to a Class 7 driver, regardless of how long the driver has held his or her Class 7 licence. There is no requirement to leave the Graduated Licensing Program, and a Class 7 driver may renew his or her licence indefinitely. The only way to graduate to a Class 5 licence is to pass the Class 5 road test.

If you have further questions about driver licensing, please feel free to call ICBC Customer Contact at 1-800-950-1498. A representative is available to assist you between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Holidays."

Yeah the test is about an hour.

Depending on where you take it, the required elements are different.

I took mine here in Richmond, it was pretty damn easy. I went on the highway for like 2.3 minutes...just from one exit to the next. The only point of the highway section is to make sure that you are able to merge on and off the highway properly.

They make you back in to a stall at the end of the test...yah and how hard is that? Not hard AT ALL.

Umm what else?

Hazard perception while you're driving, they'll ask you to do it either 2-3 times. They're still really really picky about speed and having your hands at 10 and 2. I was so paranoid that I was going to be driving with one hand and get in shit...who the fuck uses BOTH hands on the wheel? Nice try! haha

Anyways, I failed the first time because some woman pulled out in front of me even though I had the right of way and so I didn't see the playground zone sign. Stupid woman!

The best time to book your test is during rush hour...that way there's less driving to do because there's a good chance you'll get stuck in traffic :D
