Holy fuck... just had a totally surreal moment....
Quite possibly one of the scariest/funniest moments I've ever dealt with!!
I'm at the North Shore Winter Club today prepping for a shoot for the TV show 'The 4400' tomorrow. By time I'm done it's game time and rather than wait in traffic I head upstairs to their private lounge and watch it there with a co-worker. A fellow we know who is visiting from Australia joins us and we basically have a few drinks over the game. I offer to drive the Aussie back to his hotel. On my way out from the hotel (Holiday Inn on Lillooet Rd in N. Van. there's only one way out of that whole area) I pass through a road block. I'm honest with the cop and tell him I had about 3 beer over the course of the game. He asks me to pull to the side to do a breathalyzer test. Now no matter how sober you are the idea of doing a breath test gets you nervous. The cop comes and I blow and all is clear. He says I blew .033 and they start issuing 24hrs at about .05 so I'm well within my limits. GREAT!! Off I go! Out of the corner of my eye I notice a guy standing on the sidewalk who has watched all of this. It's the Locations Manager for my show.... who is the boss of the Assistant LM who is MY boss. Basically my bosses boss just saw me have to blow a breathalyzer test. PANIC.... I can't just drive away so I roll down my window and I'm all like 'Dennis?' out the window. Well he smiles and walks over and I have no idea what he might have to say. It ended up like this: Dennis: "Oh so you had to blow huh? Bit much?" Me: "Nah, I'm good. Just being safe I guess by checking me after I told him I had a drink or three during the game" Dennis: "So you kept it all in check huh?" Me: "Yeah, of course. Always do" (PLEASE DON'T FLIP OUT AND FIRE ME) Dennis: "Yeeeeahhhh..... me, not so much. I opened my big mouth and they took my car. My buddy is coming to pick me up. See you tomorrow though!" Looks like I panicked for nothing... the big guy was in way worse a situation than me!!! Either way... it was good for a few seconds of 'Oh shit!!!' |

I think the surreal moment was running into his boss' boss at the roadblock having just blowin' under the limit.

it is when you blow anything below 0.08 and have a class 5 license.

OR I have a cousin and two friends, all in separate incidents, who were killed BY drunk drivers so I don't condone it or appreciate being called out like I was doing it. If I have too much to drink I find another way home thanks. The fact that I blew well under the legal limit, by almost .05, it's quite obvious that I kept myself well within check.

At my old work my multi-millionaire boss let his 15 year old daughter drive his porche while he was in the passenger seat. She got in a really bad accident and totalled the car. Luckily no one was hurt seriously.
Everyone at work knew, but we all had to keep it a secret from his wife who thought it was him who was behind the wheel lol |
