Earth-like Planet Discovered!
I was listening to the radio this morning, and found it quite amazing to hear that scientists found a planet with similar characteristics to earth, which is about 13 trillion miles away or something like that.
Here is a brief clip of the article: Quote:

I read about this planet a week ago.
Given that the planet circles around a red sun, and it's covered with clouds, might that not be the planet Krypton? According to my sources, Krypton is supposed to be more massive than earth revolving around a red sun. Oh wait! It's supposed to be a red giant. The sun mentioned in the article is a red dwarf. Damn. No Kal-El on that planet. |

I was watching an episode of Nova (or a similar show on discovery channel I think) and it was on the fact that scientists have basically ruled out the possibility of life on other planets because of the orbits of the planets around the star they're near.
Basically when one planet has been evolving along just fine and there's the possibility of "ideal situations" for carbon based, water dependant life forms to live on the planet some other planet or moon in the vicinity will screw up the "ideal situation". Either a larger planet will block out the ideal planet from the sun rays for just long enough to cause a mini ice-age. Or a moon's orbit will interfere with the planets orbit and cause it to move just far enough towards the sun to mess things up. Etc. Etc. It was a pretty educational show. It showed just how fragile and unlikely life on earth really is and just how much of a balance is needed for things to even 'start' to become ideal and then how the balance has to stay just right to actually go anywhere. It was something I found real interesting, just thought I'd pass it on since it related to this post. I dunno if I think there's is life on other planets, I haven't made up my mind yet. If there is and we find out about it that would be sweet. But if not then oh well. But if people are able to make money while searching for aliens and have fun doing it then all the power to them. I think it'd be a rad carreer, sorta. |
