(she doesn't even use iptables / a firewall) And no, I did not make this up. Funny clip, but I'm afraid it's full of myths. That's how it was like 5-7 years ago. I've been on linux for 4 years now and never ever had to compile my own kernel... :: Reviews : Switching to Windows: Not as easy as you think ;) Last edited by anewlife; Apr 27, 07 at 01:59 PM. |

I FIND THE BEST OPERATING SYSTEMS ARE THE ONES THAT WHEN YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING NEW, YOU HAVE TO CALL ONE OF A VERY SMALL GROUP OF FRIENDS TO ASK THEM HOW TO DO IT AND IF YOU'RE GOING TO FUCK UP THE SHIT THEY SET UP FOR YOU. ITS A REALLY WELCOMING EXPERIENCE.

So what exactly is your problem? |

NOT HAVING SECURITY FIXES OR SUPPORT IS DIFFERENT FROM BEING FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN.
YEAH MAN, HOW OFTEN DOES YOUR GRANDMA RUN THAT COMMAND FOR THE FILES SHE INSTALLS? LINUX MAKES EVERYTHING EASY! |

It's not needed to install software...so I don't see your problem. And the repo is shown anyway (should you care) so you don't really need to click much. |

hahah i always laugh when diehard linux users try and convince everyone that everyday people can just jump into linux and be carefree and extremely happy that they found linux
linux is a 100x harder to operate then windows, and to suggest to a non tech savy guy to jump into linux is retarded. |

@ rawb and his nemises
stop arguing about it especially you anewlife No matter what there is no way a non computaer savy is going to find linux easier to windows. Theyve grown up on windows and any changes will be confusing, any problems will be confusing.. Fuck the orig poster was confused on what windows genuine advantage was.. how do you think hes gunna react when he faces an issue on linux, which fewer people wou;ld be able to help him with, and potentially could be a serious problem for his likely store bought, windows designed PC. I would bet hes not running the best of computers.. maybe even one of those windows fired up dells... peices of shit to a gamer like me, but they work great for the average person. So can we just move on. We obviously know you have a serious preference for Linux / Ubuntu. Too be honest, if i wasnt a gamer, so would I. And rawb is obviously a slight fan of linux due to the cost, but still finds windows easier and really thinks your a tool for suggesting some computer illiterate person to install a whole new operating system in lee of a small glitch with automatic donwloads that will fix itself considering he has a legit version of XP. So everyone shut up and move on. PS lets close this thread because obviously its off topic. |
