Blizzard Confirms StarCraft II
StarCraft II
Officials from Blizzard have confirmed that the company is working on a sequel to seminal 1998 PC real-time strategy game StarCraft, after it was unveiled at a the 2007 Blizzard Invitational event in Seoul, South Korea over the weekend. A sequel to StarCraft, as well as other dormant Blizzard franchises such as Diablo, has been rumored for several years – always hinted at by the developer but never confirmed. In the end, the game is reported to have been under development for over four years so far. The announcement of a new StarCraft title was widely expected at the invitational event in Korea, where the game is exceptionally popular, due to the high acceptance of professional televised gaming in the country. Speculation on the nature of the game had varied considerably, though, from a straight real-time strategy sequel to a massively multiplayer online game in the style of World of WarCraft. In the end, the game revealed is a clear evolution of the original title, feature the same three races of Protoss, Terrans and Zerg. Each faction will make use of several new units and new gameplay mechanics, with a customized 3D graphic engine that has been demonstrated with dozens of units on screen at once and a powerful zoom feature. As well as a single player campaign mode, the final game will use an upgraded version of Blizzard’s Battle.net online gaming service and come ready with a full-featured map editor similar to that used by Blizzard designers. The game will be released simultaneously on PC and Mac, although no release date has yet been confirmed. “With StarCraft II, we’ll be able to do everything we wanted to do with the original StarCraft and more,” stated Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard. “We recognize that expectations are high following the long-running popularity of the original game, but we plan to meet those expectations and deliver an engaging, action-packed, competitive experience that StarCraft players and strategy gamers worldwide will enjoy.” |

jesus christ people - it's just a freakin' video game!
WHO CARES. (I got nothing against you Kraig... but just people in general who will wait in line a whole week before the official release of this game and who will then brag on the internet when they get their copy) |

Holy fack - I can't understand shit you're all saying.
''The Proton pack at the base of the Zerman empire is guarding the turtles taking a shit at the zealots temple, while the dragoon rushes the reaver with a powerful attack from the cannon's Protoss.'' I'm out of this thread. |

One platoon of Zealots and one platoon of Dragoons per base and you've got yourself enough time to build solid defences and upgrade. If you do it right, by the time they're ready to launch an attack, you've already got your Carriers loaded up and more cannon power sitting on your doorstep than you know what to do with it.
While you're at it, mind-controlling their construction units is always a fun route to take too. |

Scout first, see what they're building and tech accordingly. Vs terran, i like zealot/dt/dragoon builds, vs zerg, upgraded zeal+reavers with some goons depending on whether they go lisks, lings, or muta. Most games will end before carriers even come into play. |

i liked corsair/templar/Zeal to counter mass mutas, but you need expand early to get enough gas. Usually throw a quick zeal rush to keep him busy if I notice the Zerg teching fast - otherwise I'll slow expand with troop coverage.
Personally prefer mass muta/ling than straight mutas myself... shit... i quit SC for a reason... shouldn't really get back into it... |

another thing I liked to do is the quick corsair/zeal and go hunting for overlords before mutas come out (fast corsair beats fast mutas in build time) - by the time mutas come, you should have a healthy contingent of corsairs which just rip mutas apart unless they either have the upgrades or the player micros the mutas well enough to avoid splash damage...
yes i'm a nerd. |

watch some of the koreans play man - it's insane - guys with ilke 20 hatcheries constantly producing troops all the while micro-managing thier troops to attain best kill ratio for the troops (flank attacks, 2-prong attacks, main attacks while dropping strike teams in bases simultaneously).
I used to be decent at the game and knew the theory really well, but I couldn't execute like some of the die-hards or pro players... |

maphacks were fine, only duping drove me nuts, drove the price of items up to something unfathomable. |

you know what pissed me off the most? Was all the newbs that would accuse me of map hacking when all it took was a good knowledge of build orders, strategies and judicious scouting to know what tech trees my opponent was going.
I'd even get accused of maphacking in the mid-late game where any player worth his salt would have observors/overlord/wraiths patrolling all over the board. |

If they release this before I get my degree I fear I may never get my degree.
I dont play computer games. But I sure as hell play Starcraft. This is the best news iv heard in a loooong ass time. I cant wait to see the new toss units. And I say its all about the DT and reaver drops. Arbitors are effing awesome if you get a chance to build them. Recall and the freeze are incredibly powerfull. |
