Anyone own a Lacie D2 harddive?

So I have a Lacie Big Disk Triple Interface 500 gig drive and it basically won't mount anymore. I have about 300 gigs of data on there - much of which is invaluable music-related stuff I *really* don't want to lose...

I've done a bit of research and it *might* only be the power supply rather than the entire drive dying. Does anyone have one of these sons of bitches so I can borrow your power adaptor just to check if it works before I drop $40 on a new one - just want to make sure i'm not wasting my money :-\.

anyone?

I'll be eternally grateful...

take the drive OUT of the enclosure and use a different one.

LaCie drives look nice, but we have 4 dead ones at work.

riddla is an unknown quantity at this point
welp my sudgestion would be, a first b second...

a) get a linux livecd, ubuntu will do just fine. boot it, check the bootlog, if it shows up there, the hardware is aok, but data is fucked.

b) if u try a, and it DOESNT show up in the bootlog that means that usb <---> the drive isnt working fine. this could be a number of issues. power would be the first thing id check, but in accuality it could be: the power supply, the usb<->ide interface, your usb hardware(chipset, etc), or even somthing as silly as the usb cord!

now i saw u mentioned that u thought it was the power supply (ac adapter)... welp this is actually pretty easy to test.

plug it in, with pc off.
put ear close to the drive, you should hear it spin up.

if you dont hear it spin up, then ur ac adapter is fucked.

keep in mind, all these external drives are (99% of the time) is a usb<-> ide interface. so if it turns out that the drive itself is fine but anything 'box' related, you can just buy a replacement case for around 40 bux and throw the drive into your new box.

pm me / msn riddlariddlaAThotmail.com if you need further instructions.

tomek.
