Honestly, I don't think a lot of people understand that part of this whole 'she doesn't deserve to be treated any differently than any other regular joe in America' sentiment means that we need to really think about the American justice system. ANY OTHER PERSON caught doing the same thing with no prior criminal record would definitely be given community service in lieu of serving time.
Make no mistake that the justice system is setting an example of this person because of WHO SHE IS and not necessarily what she did and that is also very wrong. Remember that just as the justice system should not be more leniant on her, it also shouldn't be harder on her either. All I've heard people talk about over the last few days is pretty much this, and the funny part is that a lot of people who seem to think this is pretty hilarious and are glad she cried, etc. are also people who I've seen drive drunk and most certainly would get the same conviction if they were pulled over by police. oh and before someone tries to say they've never driven drunk, I wasn't really talking about people in this thread. |

The fact of the matter is that if any other american had been given a 45 day prison sentence they WOULD NOT have walked unless it had been for a very serious reason.
What happened was complete bullshit. No celeberty deserves special treatment. Paris was given that sentence because the judge used his judgement. Giving a rich person a speeding ticket does not have the same effect as giving a poor person a speeding ticket. The judge knew this, and as a result did what he could to send Paris a clear message that her behavior was NOT acceptable. It was written all over her actions that she thought of herself as above the law. Not only did she dirnk and drive, she continued to drive once her licence had been taken away. Her action of continuing to drive clearly shows that she thinks that the law does not apply to her, that she can easily buy her way out. That bitch deserves jail time. Honestly what else can you do to a person so oblivious to the world to get a message through to them? I think the sentence is completely fair. |
