Big dogs in a highrise?

What are your opinions?

Still cruel? what if it gets out for 3 walks a day.. is it still cruel then since they can't really run around the house a lot..?

I guess it depends on your outlook on cruel.

Me personally, I think having a big dog couped up in a small apartment is more unfair to the dog then anything else. Big dogs need room, to move, play, grow, and such. Even with 3-4 walks a day, thats still not enough. Large Breed dogs have instinct in them to be able to move as they wish. Not lay on a dog bed beside a door for half the day.

IMO.

All depends on the breed, if it needs alot of exercise or not.

I mean even if a big dog is in a house it doesnt even get to go out more than once a day maybe depending on how shitty the owner is right.

My dog is absolutley spoiled, hikes, camping trips every weekend, my mom takes him for drives if he whines at her ffs.

Seriously who wastes gas to take a dog for a drive !?

So ya if you take him out all the time I see no problem.

But having a large dog in a house vs. a large dog in an apartment are two different things?
I guess it depends on the size of your place though, yeah. I took this question into thinking we were talking about having a dog in some little 1 room pad in downtown van or something.

2 bedroom + den and balcony... building surrounded by 3 parks

dog breed: Doberman pinscher

I wanted to buy a wolf.. but my gf wont let me buy a wolf since i got her a mini pinscher haha...

but imagine how cute it'd be having a doberman and a mini pin... it would look like its mini-me

hahahhahaha... doberman eh?? i dont know alot about dogs, besides my expeirence of owning one for 13 years until it died. But walks and stuff are really all they need. If they get a chance to stretch their legs thats plenty, i have a large house and the dog never moved around more then a small rooms area in the house.

ps i had a mid-large sized german shepard / doberman

Yeah, my dogs always been in houses with big back yards if not a ravine that goes on for 6 miles, lucky mutt, but yeah, I can't imagine him in an apt. he's a texas red nose pitty and they need mad exercise everyday.

No idea on a dobey but I'm guessing they need alot of exercise too.

Next dog I'm getting a Pug. ;)

I saw this guy who had a big doberman and he said they are very difficult to train and you have to have a constant approach or they will run you out of your house. So i would research your breed very well.

Medium size breeds could work but large is pushing it.

Everyone should research they're breed before buying. Every different type of dog have different personalities. Not everyone can have the same kinda dog. Just because you think its a cool looking dog, doesnt mean its the right one for you.

As long as you kick him in public it's all good.

I think with a Doberman you would be okay as long as you didn't get too lazy with the walk thing.

A dog like a Shepard, on the other hand, would be a no-no. I couldn't see a Shepard getting use to such a small space.

As long as you get the dog young it will adapt... but think twice before getting one. + be prepared to let the dog run around (and essentially destroy) your place. If you train the dog to be sedentary in such a small space it will not be too happy.

I don't know, there are some people that own dogs that live in houses with huge yards, etc. who still mistreat their dogs and don't give them the attention or exercise that they need.

It all comes down to the owner- having a dog is like having a child and it's a 24/7 responsibility, you have to take into consideration how active the breed is and devote most of your free time to making them happy, taking them out for long walks, etc. I read an article not too long ago about dogs being a lot like humans in that they can easily adapt to living conditions, especially in urban areas. The catch here is you have to be a devoted and responsible owner..and if you already know that you can be that, I'd say do it.
