The way this hurricane season has started, no-one in the entire region is really "safe". I'd be very surprised if Florida didn't catch a storm or two before all is said and done.

Hopefully your bro doesn't end up riding one out.

^ It's a lot safer in Florida with hurricane shutters and hurricane proof glass than it is in Cancun where only select resorts are equipped with those luxuries!! I'd waaaaay rather ride out a hurricane in Florida, especially areas where they're extra prepared, like Miami!

Edit: It's also a lot less likely for a category 5 hurricane to make landfall in the US than in Mexico/Caribbean. Only three category 5 hurricanes have ever made landfall in the US!

^ Nah, it's already weakened to a category 2. If it makes landfall in the US at all it will most likely be as a tropical storm.

What kills me about all this is some of my neurotic and selfish clients bitching about how they want to cancel their vacation that's next month because they "don't want to see fallen down trees" on their holiday. Meanwhile the jamaicans are struggling to repair their neighbourhoods and the whole region is struggling financially because of damage and a drop in tourism. Makes my blood boil.
