I hear that xbox live isn't able to see if you are running modded or not. I've seen some videos of someone who modded Gears of War. You can mod the physics and player settings i think. The mod also lets you play burned games which would be nice because the discs screw up after awhile and having a backup of a game is nice.
I'm thinking of doing it pretty soon actually. |

I know people who've done it. If you're looking at playing burned games, definitely it's worth it. However, although normally you can play on XBox Live, not too long ago some people had their Xboxs permanently banned from Live because Microsoft released an update that banned Xboxs with mod chips in them.
It wouldn't suprise me if Microsoft did another update like that again. If you don't care about Live, do it, otherwise, you're definitely taking a chance. |

yeah, i heard about the busts.. funnily enough, I was at one of my co-workers places and i saw the screen for myself (he had his modded) What's the point of finishing halo 3 and putting it away? Not enjoying the replay value that the MP will offer.
Same goes with getting updates, say your game weirdly went to microsoft with a crash but wasnt found until after the game hit shelves. You're going to see that crash forever since the updates are put into the games via live. I decided not to go for the modding, even though there will be more mods for it. Microsoft will deffinitely release mod detection updates. |

flash your dvd drive and stealth patch your backups. make sure you stay on top of the modded firmwares and you should be ok (xbox live safe). also core systems are dirt cheap so buy one of those to supplement your premium/elite and use the core for flashing. xbox-scene.com will answer your mod questions better than fnk ever will.
if you flash, follow the instructions to a T and you should be fine. local shops will do this for ~$30 but you can do it yourself for free (or $10 for a sata card if you dont have one onboard) |

the ban was not about the update, and modchips are safe from banning. M$ was using disc-checks long before the update and made a running list of people using backups with flash modded dvd drives. then they dropped the ban hammer on everyone at once. the update was partially about kernal mods to support halo3 beta and they used the h3beta to pick up on a lot of backup users. same thing they did with the original xbox.
