When you give a number over the phone, do you...

say the whole number right away without pausing?

or do you say the first 3 numbers, then wait for a "yah..." or "uh huhhh" before continuing on to the next 3 numbers?

i work for a phone company, and nothing annoys me more than people who say all ten digits rapid fire.

but then again, the other thing that annoys me big time is people who leave a good 10 second gap between sets of digits.

depends on who i'm talking to. if i'm talking to someone that takes a lot of phone numbers over the phone, like customer service reps, then i'd just read it off quickly. otherwise i guess i'd pause a bit.

I say it in chunks...

Area code *short pause*
Next 3 digits *short pause*
Last 4 digits

I also say and then spell out everything if I'm giving a name and/or address because I find it's less frustrating for me than having to repeat something over and again until they understand what I'm saying. Bc usually ATLEAST my name gets lost in the translation otherwise.

Hear hear. Due to the nature of my job I've aqctually gotten into the habit of spelling everything out phonetically. (ie my name is Juliet-Echo-Sierra-Sierra-India-Charlie-Alpha) It saves so much time. :noworry:

me too :) and the proper business thing is to repeat the number twice if you're leaving it in a message!

situation directly determines how I say it but whatever is generally going to annoy the other person on the phone.

if they are old.. talk too fast. if they are more then capable of follwing me then WAY too slow.

I KID. I do the same thing veN does.
