Walmart, Zellers cutting prices to reflect parity with USD
Just saw this on the news... looks like the parity equilibrium is catching up sooner than most people thought. Walmart and Zellers are the first two major retailers to cut prices to reflect our better dollar. Price cuts vary from a few bucks to hundreds.
According to the report the BC govt is stepping in and trying to urge other retailers to follow suit. I'd definitely welcome it for sure. I'm curious though if the move is 'customer satisfaction' based or 'OH CRAP ALL OUR SHOPPERS ARE HEADING SOUTH' based... haha |

Retailers would be stupid not to here in Canada. Ive been saving all my retail (clothing) shopping for a trip to the states in a week or two. Before ppl would shop down there because you couldn't get it in Canada, lower tax rate, and with the US low prices and are dollar slowly rising... You did save a bit.
But now since our dollar IS higher and are prices are still well $10-$50 more... its like why would you shop in Canada? Ill still buy my basics and things from Canadian stores... but I wouldn't dare by anything here that I could find across the boarder. |
