Promoter doesn't arrange ride for headliner - demands deposit back via threats

good old fashioned RAVE DRAMA!!!

Apparently DJ Annalyze was booked for a show in NC, the promoters didn't arrange a ride from the airport, flaked on the agreed upon sound check, didn't give her a ride from her hotel to the venue, wouldn't return her calls resulting in her missing her timeslot. The promoter subsequently stormed into her hotel with a bunch of goons and threatened her with "a bullet in the head" if she didn't return her deposit.

So its 10 oclock... i go back to my hotel to freshen up a bit and chill.. 1230 rolls around no word from the promoter, 1am rolls round nothing 2am nothing.. i have been nonstop callin this girl and nothing. finally i call from some random cell phone and bam she answers telling me how unprofessional i am.. now how am i unprofessional for not wanting to stay at the club for 4 hrs before i played? u know how i would have been? lol ,, so yeah i flew all the way here to be called unprofessional for going back to my hotel room to organize music...

now I've been doing this 8 years .. I've never once in my life ever been told I'm not allowed in the club & that the owner was pissed at me.. like are u serious? cause u didn't pick me up at 1230 I'm unprofessional.. whats unprofessional is me sending this bulletin, pissed because i missed cousins cd release party for this.

8 years deep son and never in my life has anything like this ever happened.. I've worked with every kinda promoter under the sun from hip hop-snowboard events to u name it..

and whats even better is Reid speed warned me about this club.. and i still went ahead and did all this.. Im known as the dj that everyone can party with and have a good time. i'm not high maintenance whatsoever. yeah bitched a lil cause i wanted MY SETUP, which all turntablist need.. its like a guitarist showin up to show using someone else's guitar tryna play on the clubs equipment ya know?? we agreed on setting up before i went on , and I was supposed to play 2-4? what headliner really plays the crackhead slot these days?? wow.. im appalled right now and in shock. never in my life have i ever been treated so bad, called a bitch & been told i was unprofessional...

40 minutes later & still on the phone, sound guys arrives. I hear him tell anna that he would like to set her mixer up later in the night...right before she goes on so the other djs could use the allen & heath before her. I hear them agree to put on a CD right before she goes on so that they can plug in her gear on the fly.

We are still on phone & Anna leaves club at 10pm & is taken back to hotel to freshen up as her set is not until 2am-4am. I hear anna's ride ask her what time she wanted to be picked up and she said 12:30 or 1am at the latest. they agree and anna goes to her room. We chat for a bit more while anna gets ready and we hang up at 12:20am so anna can go downstairs to lobby to wait for promoter.

At 1:30am I get a text from anna saying the promoter forgot about her. She has been waiting in hotel lobby for over an hour and anna has called & texted the promoter numerous times but the promoter isn't answering her phone. Anna borrows someone elses phone to call and promoter answers on first ring. Promoter tells anna that the club owner is really upset & not to bother coming because he feels she's unprofessional. BARE IN MIND ITS STILL AT LEAST 20 MIN BEFORE HER SET & SHE WAS READY TO BE AT THE CLUB AT 1230AM! Promoter proceeds to scream at anna on the phone saying that anna only left one message. (Isn't one enuf?!?! Regardless, Anna called numerous times, left one voice mail & about 5 text messages. That is plenty....pick your DJ up for god's sake!?!?) She also said anna was unprofessional for not wanting to play on the club's mixer.

Anna goes back to room & texts me again asking me to call her. Promoter knocks on anna's door at 3am. Anna opens door and promoter forcefully comes into her room along with some big ass dude & bunch of other people waiting outside. They cornered her in her room & threatened her saying that the clubowner is going to PUT A BULLET IN HER HEAD IF SHE DOESN'T RETURN THE $350 DEPOSIT they had paid her when the booking was previously confirmed with her contract. Anna said she was gonna call 911 and they said the cops wont do anything to help her.

Anna is 5ft 1 inches & maybe 115lbs & this guy pushing her around was huge. They forced her to go to the atm and give them $350. Anna was so freaked out that she went strait to the airport once they left.

Now, I was on the phone with her for most of the night and I heard the agreements that were made. Anna fulfilled her obligations. It is standard for DJs to have rider's requiring certain pieces of equipment in their contract. Turntablist require special mixers to scratch with & like me, Anna brings most of her gear with her. The promoter agreed to these terms before hand. It's the promoter's responsibility to get the artist to & from the airport, hotel & club etc. not oly is it the promoter's fault she wasn't at the club at 1230 & there was still time for her to be picked up when they finally spoke on the phone at 130. This promoter was in breach of anna's contract, extremely unprofessional & most of all dangerous.

I've never heard of anything like this happening & I'm just happy that anna is okay. Beware of this club & promotions company...especially if you are a short female DJ ;o)

not really. very few people have the balls to stand up and say or do anything about it when they get ripped off. Reid however does, and more power to her as I wish everyone did.

the plan was for me to be picked up at 12/1230, i confirmed it wit homegirl driving & shortee heard it all .. i was going to plug my mixer in on the fly because they needed to use cdjs and my mixer only has 2 channels. the guy working sound/ resident dj gave me the ok...
yer boy wit the visor heard it all and so did shortee.


i dont want beef dude, but tellin me someone is ready to put a bullet in my head, the cops cant do anything & makin me go to an atm to withdraw money..

reverse the story, put yerself in my shoes. be alone in the streets of ny with over 3g's worth of equipment on you, and have someone tell u that shit.. how would u feel??

Regardless of being a professional or not - some promoters just treat DJs like shit. Even professional DJs experience that kind of treatment once in a while.

I think it's the promoter who is supposed to be a top notch professional here - not the DJ. DJs are entertainers... and you never know how they might react. But promoters are business people... and their etiquette should ALWAYS be professional, no matter WHAT.

Bullshit. They are both supposed to be proffesionals.

A dj is hired to do a job. They are paid a lot of money for what they do, because they are proffesionals. They should be just as professional as the promoter if not more so. A dj is easily replaceable.

Just because you aren't a professional doesn't mean other people dosen't mean other dj's don't have to be.

Did you even read the post? Reid Speed has nothing to do with this incident other than warning Annalyze ahead of time about problems she had experienced with the same promoter.

I was just going to say, what great professionalism with the grammar and spelling used.

Although I think it's silly thinking Reid Speed is always linked to "rave drama" as it only really happened once, but I do see a connection with the poorly written posts and when the SAME sympathy excuse was used with "small female dj only weighs a 100 lbs". Like I should talk, but its a lame excuse. Oh and same question I had for Reid Speed for Anylize, WHERE WAS THE MANAGER OR AGENT IN THIS STORY???

Over all I do feel sorry for the shady deal and hope all the best for Analyze. I also think its good that stories like this get out because it always helps others know what to look out for.
