^there are ways around that in most countries, portugal still has a mandatory enlisting as well.

You can pay extra taxes per annum to be omitted though.

"EU citizenship" is given to any national of an EU member country, but individual countries have their own citizenship requirements. basically what you need is german citizenship and an EU passport.

Quote:
If you were born on or after January 1, 1975:

If your parents were married at the time of your birth you acquired German citizenship if at least one parent was German.
If your parents were not married at the time of your birth you acquired German citizenship if your mother was German; you did not acquire German citizenship if only your father was German. However: a person born out of wedlock on or after July 1, 1993 can acquire German citizenship if only the father is German and if the father acknowledges paternity.
Quote:
If you willingly apply for a foreign citizenship and obtain it, the German citizenship is automatically lost. If you obtain a foreign citizenship without an application for naturalization, you remain a German citizen.
i also read somewhere that your father has to actually be a german citizen and not just born there.

^ Best way to find out is call your Father and then talk to the German Consulate.

Unfortunately I can't obtain my Norweigan Passport because I'd have to renounce my Canadian Citizenship. Damnit.

my father is being rediculously difficult.
it's like he's trying to get bacj at me. grow up, seriously.

so many times he told my mom's family and i that he has dual citizenship, Canada/USA.
when we called him asking him to help us fill out his part of the info section on the papers for my passport application he agreed.
then, a week later they came back to us, he wrote across the top "NOT A US CITIZEN, NEVER HAD US CITIZENSHIP. NEVER HAD A US PASSPORT. BORN IN WEST GERMANY. PRESENT IN THE US FROM 1962-1968"

fucking lies, jesus.
even if what he wrote is, indeed, the truth, then he lied extensively to my mom's family and me for a lot of years.
now i'm going to have to go the long and VERY difficult route.
although i am going to call my opa i'm pretty sure he can help a bit.
