True Confessions: Canadians Imprisoned Abroad
i found a pamphlet at the passport office today titled Drugs and Travel, Why They DON'T MIX. among other things, it gave a link to this:

half the people in the confessions are single moms.
jesus christ. in the pamphlet there's a 55yr old man who was detained for being a suspected smuggler in a thai airport when he was heading back to canada. they sent him to a hospital for what they called "drug extraction." turns out he admitted to swallowing 100 capsules of heroin. they were only succesfull in extract half the capsules, he spent the next several days in and out of consiousness from traces of the heroin seeping into his system, all the while in police custody in a thai hospital. if one of the capsules ruptured he would die. he lived. now he's awaiting trial, and hoping to not get the death penalty, the max sentance for trafficking in thailand. SERIOUSLY, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

The current rules say that doing all this stuff is wrong, and they are right. If you interfere with the "War on Drugs" then you are screwed. They need to legalize, tax the hell out of it, take the criminal element off the streets so people won't get tempted by these risky "business" ventures. The war on drugs was lost 2 decades ago. The major governments of the world need to stop putting emphasis on the drug war and need to work on peace. Let the stupid kill themselves off with drugs and allow the honest who like to have fun in their free time live their hard-working lives. The worst anti-drug law is the law against marijuana, the fact that 2/3 of the world still upholds such a racist law based on a few states racism in southern United States is rediculous!
Legalize the Herb, decriminalize the rest, put the violent gangsters out of business!

a lot of times it's not even as sinister as an act of smuggling for profit, but just sheer stupidit of young people looking to get high as they travel. people that stupid shouldn't leave canada.

apparently there is a big problem in the caribbean with single moms being manipulated into becoming drug mules for money /entrance to the UK, etc
it's not really directly related but this just made me think of it. i think that most canadians probably wouldnt need to resort to that though, so, yes. sheer stupidity.

i guess there's enough stupid people out there that the government feels this warning info pack is needed, i never would have thought so until now.
but after reading this stuff, yeah, there's a lot of stupid people who need a warning. SMUGGLE DRUGS = MEXICAN JAIL
