Do you write "Black Americans" or "African-Americans" in your papers?

ive always wondered how people feel about each term. i think its appropriate to use "black americans" in academic papers. likewise for other races. thoughts?

I always thought black american was a better label, saying african american is like saying black american is the same culturally as africans and even making the generalization of african isn't correct. Also alot of black americans are from the west indies or brazil which is a different culture then blacks from america or africa.

Why don't you research the existing discourse on "African diaspora" and find out what terms contemporary scholars are using to describe the groups in question and think critically about what term YOU think is appropriate for the purposes of your own paper.
