i need some computer nerd help

i tried to plug in some more ram into my comp., and all looked AOK until it started entering windows... then boom, computer just auto. reboots...

i bought the right ram, it shows up in my bios, and the computer seems to accept it... but once windows boots up, pfffffft....

usually ram just goes in the slot and does its fucking job, no?

if your bios detects it then everything should be ok... you might want to try inserting them into their slots again just to make sure you did it correctly the first time..

if that still doesnt work, then hmm... certain version of windows are known to not work with a certain amount of ram in the machine.. however thats probably not the case here

can you boot into safe mode? if so, there must be something wrong with your windows configuration... if you cant even boot into safe mode you might just want to try reinstalling windows again

ive had a problem like this before and it was cause my cpu was overheated.. so i underclocked it by about 50mhz and it was ok

maybe try putting it in the other slot. how many slots do you have? 2? 3? and how many ram chips do you have? try swapping positions with them. Do the chips you are using have the same ammount of memory or not? sometimes the larger one has to be in a different slot than the smaller one. Best of luck :)

it won't let me in safe mode
it won't even let me go to the dos prompt... if i do that, it freaks out in ascii characters...

i don't see how this can be a hardware problem when my bios aknowledges the ram i just put in...

i've installed ram tonnes of times, but this is the first time on an winXP system... so i dunno wtf is up with this shit...

once i took the ram out, i had no problems getting into windows...

If you tried it with the new one, there must be something wrong with it, IMO. I would suggest getting a new one and prolly of the smae brand. It's just....better that way, ya know?

bob, maybe its bad ram. Based on your post you've done everything that you should be doing. Go and return the ram if all possible.
