it was announced last year that by 2009 every channel will be going to digital, it's about time too.
eventually (2013 i think) HD will be ruling.
I think for Canada it's a bit different, i think the crossover to digital is 2010.
none the less, go buy an all digital dct from futureshop for $62.00 you're flyin'

the US is making the switch so they can auction off the spectrum to wireless companies and Canada will probably follow shortly thereafter because thats what we do up here. most tvs have digital tuners in them anyways so you wont even notice a difference. this only affects people that still use rabbit ears to pick up over-the-air signals.
