The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's iconic Hockey Night in Canada theme song, known for decades as Canada's "second national anthem," will no longer be used in hockey broadcasts, according to the song's composer.

Contract renegs. I've heard they're bluffing so that they don't have to pay out their ass for a 10-second jingle someone wrote decades ago, just because that person knows the weight the original song has with the viewers.

From what I've heard, the songwriter (or whoever has the rights to the song) is just requesting the same amount that they've been receiving for years (apparently 2 Million/year).

I think the stunner here is that the people of Canada pay for CBC. It's a publically funded corporation...for them to pay a bunch of burnout ex players and coaches to do a piss poor job of doing sports commentaries but fall short of paying for what even non hockey fans would agree as Canada's 2nd national anthem is just silly. silly i say! and yes, before you cut in, I know life is shittier in Africa.

hockey nite in canada is a canadian staple. its apart of our culture,heritage and national identity

im just a casual hockey fan and im really annoyed by this.

it gose deeper then just hockey or just a theme song.this is systematic canadian culture death.
