Yeah, but that's like saying "if one gas station decided to price their fuels affordably, it would destroy the competition in a matter of weeks." It's true in theory, but it's been fixed. There are no more gas wars, and there may soon be no free internet if we don't watch this type of sh!t. That said, it's definitely not the best article I've ever read. Do you have some better ones you'd like to contribute?

Not going to happen. What a useless alarmist post.
ISPs can say what they want about the future, as long as there are still people wanting a standard high-speed connection they can hook up their computers to, there will be a company willing to meet that demand. Whoever wrote that blog doesn't understand how the internet works, or they don't understand how business works. |

Internet is simply access to a product. Charging less then your competitors for better access would easily work. (ISP) Mcleans had a good article a year or so back. It should be on there page, but I don't feel like going through it all though. |

Seriously, though, I remember this crazy show on after Sport Talk with Dan Russell pimping kits for Y2K back in the day. That dude was tripping. |

I think this I-Power stuff is more shock news then anything. I strongly believe these major companies will move that direction and certainly we have no way to stop it.
If Telus, Bell or any company for that matter wants to push a "limited, safe internet experience" to their customers I'm all for it. Let them market their advertisments like CD's to AOL and hook the average consumer. Then lets all leave the Hamilton's alone for 30 mins while they throw on a Redhot in the basement and rest asured they don't have to worry about little Jane and little Jack surfing "the internet" upstairs. Some of the things I have put on the web I too wouldn't want them to find. lol There will always be a market for open ISP's outside the big telecom companies. As for mobile internet, the people of Vancouver (or any major city for that matter) need to wise up and start spreading the love of free WiFi access points. |
