Hey Myrasauce... I totally understand and appreciate everything that everyone has said about Facebook and promoters (like me) annoying them with messages, invites, etc. via Facebook.
Why send messages? -- The simple answer is because it sells tickets. It may piss you, and several others off but you'd be surprised at the amount of messages I get back with people saying, "thanks for sending this! I still need to get my tickets, etc." |

Think about it this way Kraig, in your job if you have a set meeting with someone in your outlook calendar would you think it was very professional for them to e-mail you daily to remind you that the meeting or event was happening? That simply would not be tolerated. |

If anyone actually uses figures from facebook to calculate their attendance is a waste of time.
and I agree with myra.. I dont need 8 freakin message a week about a stupid DJ or some artsy fartsy show. I've wanted to attend events.. then the messages start. I boycott the event like the plague. |

Though it may piss you, her and a few others off, it sells tickets and I get replies from peeps saying thanks for the reminder, I need to get my tickets or other replies with questions on the event. After sending out a message or update like that, we sell tickets... it directly translates to tickets sold. So does that mean I sent 10 updates out, hell no, but communication leading up to the event makes sense and is good marketing. |

I disagree with you downplaying it saying it pisses a 'few' people off, because the people annoyed at those messages are in the majority.
The purpose of having an event page is to communicate and market your product all in one easy to find place without a lot of 'mess' or 'noise'. That way, those interested in going can find everything they need to know in one location. If major updates are done to your event ie- the time changes, it's cancelled, then facebook does the job of notifying everybody so. |

I'm not going to apologize for running my business... I'll use whatever means are at my disposal to ensure the artist has the best show.
And you can't speak for the masses... sorry. As I've said, the 1 to 2 updates I "may" send out equal ticket sales. Call it what you must, but those people appreciate it. |

you can't really blame someone for marketing their own business effectively. opt out is more effective than opt in, for something like this. you can turn it off notifications if you want, but you wouldn't go and turn them on if you didn't know they were being sent.

Kraig, I wouldn't count you in with the other peeps on my list, that's for sure. You don't spam nearly as much as some companies. But I think the masses obviously spoke because the "ignore all event invites from this user" function was created. |
