right after the first one, there was a lot of talk about them not wanting the festival back the next year because of the damage it did to the environment or some other hippy shit... but i guess when they saw the money it dumped into the local economy they were down as fuck

In fact, I'd say it's got less then a 50% chance of happening again.

I'd say the odds are better than that. Probably because they can pull the "That was just the first year, we can iron out the kinks this year" argument and get all the cities/investors on board that way.

globeandmail.com: 2009 Pemberton Festival in jeopardy, organizer says

Vancouver -- The future of the Pemberton Festival remains uncertain despite this week's decision by the Agricultural Land Commission to allow organizers Live Nation use of the site for another year.

Executive producer Shane Bourbonnais told The Globe and Mail that the timing of the decision could well be too late to secure the festival for 2009. Right now, he said, the chance of the three-day music event taking place next year is "less than 50 per cent."

A final decision will be made in the next two weeks, he added, noting that he had promised the residents of Pemberton that he would find solutions to the transit, garbage and security problems of last July's event.

"If we don't have time to meet that promise, I would rather focus on 2010 and come back with a great product,' he said.
