In all seriousness, I love what Machida said during the countdown. He said only in the heat of the battle does "the moment become clear".
I believe what he's talking about is a self-actualizing or 'peak' experience. 99 percent of a general population is lost in thought. They are either worrying about the future, or regretting the past, or simply daydreaming. This called Maya, or the great illusion. The attraction of combat sports is that it focuses your attention on the hear and now. As a fighter, the enemy is always a moving target. Sometimes its your opponent, fear of losing, trepidation, ego, or worrying about disappointing your coach and everyone who has helped you. To stand between a determined man and his dream and win, you need to drain your mind of all these problems because your biggest problem is standing right in front of you. Machida understands this, and how glorious it is to be alive in the moment. He's bringing spirituality back to fighting. |
