I came to the conclusion that only a few ppl in my life can make me srsly LOL

the other day i was having pho with some ppl, and there was this one guy who i don't mind too much who was trying his darnedest to be phunny. quoting Daily Show, South Park, etc. He even went on a rant about Hipsters and pretty much parahprased this long ass article he read with biting sarcasm intact.

i mean i consider myself a positive person and you will hear me crack jokes and laugh throughout the day, but during the debriefing i had this discussion with a friend and i realized only a select few ppl can provoke in me that sort of deep, uncontrollable, crying, belly type laugh.

my mom, some family members, and some ppl i knew in highschool.

does it follow that the people who can make you laugh the hardest usually know you the best?

ya the quote/reference guy is never really that funny. it's more like obligatory uncomfortable laughter, because if you don't laugh he'll just reach deeper into his vault of annoying pop culture references to spray at the group until he gets a reaction.

it's kinda like einstein said. imagination is more important than knowledge. he even said one shouldn't read so many books.

i feel like humor should be contextual and part of my life. not something projected onto me via the TV or internet or magazine articles.

said reference guy is always chock-full of the latest pop culture that i can't help but feel he's disconnected from reality and probably living a bit vicariously. not to say im perfect, but just sayin.

there's nothing more annoying when i'm hanging out and someone starts quoting me a tv show (or 4chan, ugh) and they shit themsleves laughing. and i'm like, dude why are talking about seinfeld??? especially when we're with old highschool friends and there's so much epicness there already.

There are some people who have never had an original thought simply because their memories are too great.

Some reference people can take already-made references and apply it to a different context in a unique and original way.

Granted, if it goes over everybody's head, then it falls flat on its face. But part of being culturally relevant is being able to gauge what references your audience will get.

i have original thoughts all the time. all you do is look at things with a fresh outlook.

What it means is that everything new is essentially just a rehash of something old from a new perspective.

And I never said all humour is reference based. Humour is basically how the human brain copes with something that is so wrong there is nothing you can do but laugh at it.

if you drop a reference or quote in a crafty way that's a bit different then just regurgitating the last thing you saw on tv.

some people can make a living from it like Seth Macfarlane. but most just end up being the annoying guy at work who tries to twist his coworker's nipples everytime they start a shift.
