don't take anything too seriously - you are never as good or as bad as people tell you.
what you're saying is just as important as how you communicate it. always remember how shitty your first job was. constantly remind yourself how ridiculously lucky you are. you can do well at almost anything if you grind out the time. don't be a dick, even if you are right. it is never worth it. |

- Always carry a lara bar in my purse (ew power bars taste like shit) along with dental floss, an umbrella and a bottle of water (lots of days you'll need all of those!)
- Developing and sticking to a routine for getting ready, for work processes, for things in your personal life are key to keeping the momentum going even during tough times - Sometimes saying nothing says the most (thanks Emily Dickenson!) - Encorporate a bit of physical activity into each day. If you don't have time to do a workout, get off the bus a few stops earlier or opt to walk instead. And last but not least, the following quote from Biggie (feat diddy): "Puff told me like, the key to this joint The key to staying, on top of things is treat everything like it's your first project, knahmsayin? Like it's your first day like back when you was an intern Like, that's how you try to treat things like, just stay hungry" |

- be reliable. go above and beyond for people without being a pushover.
- be outspoken, even if it makes you unpopular. i live by this poem: First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist; Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me. --attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller - always know something (ask) about someone's background. knowing even something small about someone's personal/homelife can really help you know where they're coming from. makes it easier to work with/relate to that one co-worker or colleague that drives everyone nuts. - know your limitations/when to ask for help - seek out role models - avoid cliques at all costs, be inclusive - don't abuse sick time - chicks before dicks. cherish your female friends. - always set seemingly unrealistic goals for yourself - invest in your education - always remember that tomorrow is another day |

it was popularized by malcolm gladwell's latest book Outliers (which i didnt read) but i like the idea that if someone sucks they'll either quit, or keep trying.
