Yes this has been posted before... the whole Supersweet scenario revisited one more time.
Almost like deja-vu. :003: Question. What does the venue have to do with how good a party is? OK, you might have a point between indoor and outdoor parties since one can't really dance on uneven ground. Other than that who cares if it's at the PNE or Plaza? If your opinion is that the bigger the venue the crappier the party. Thank god you didn't go down to USC5 in Seattle. The main room is TWICE the size of the Colesium dance area, and then each seperate stage (3 of them) was the size of the Plaza main hall. So does 50,000 square feet with some kick ass headliners equal a shitty party? I don't think so? OK... Honda licked, but I digress. I admit that a smaller venue normally has a better vibe, but if the party isn't at one due to costs, what can you do? You either pay the price of admission and go watch your favourite DJ's and dance away the night, or go to your local nightspot and rehash it over and over again every weekend. Please don't continually bitch about how expensive it is, how the people are fucked up on drugs, etc. I'm sure percentage wise there are just as many people fucked up on drugs at a 'small' party as there are at the 2000+ 'massives'. I'm going to Nasty. Why? Because I can. The talent is there and I want to party. If you want to see a performer bad enough, you'll pay. For example, if I found out that John Fleming was coming to spin a 4 hour set and it cost $100 to see him do it, no problem! I love his style and I'll pay to see him. What's the difference paying $60 to go to Nasty or $60 to see Janet Jackson? 6 hours of partying. That's what. People work hard and earn their money, so they have the right to spend it however they want. If it doesn't agree with you fine, just stop sounding like a broken record everytime an event comes with a $50 price tag to get in. That is all. Last edited by MC Hammered; Jun 25, 01 at 12:52 AM. |

You are right Stabby, good talent can come cheap, but when a promotion company brings in someone that you would just love to see/hear I'd save up and buy a ticket.
Locals you can see almost at any party that goes off. Some of the big name talent stop here maybe once a year, don't bother heading anything west of Toronto or even if they decide to come to Vancouver! There is one BAD thing about parties in big venues. If you lose your friends, good luck finding them again. At USC5, the F-K crew got split up and we didn't see each other until the lights came back on. Also I forgot to hit the meeting place ever hour... but besides that! :005: |

i'm with winston here..
does the venue really matter?? i mean cum on, you're not going to see a venue! you're going to dance, have a good tiem and see DJ's you like. and ya $58 is alot 2 pay...that's why you only go to the ones you'd deem as wrothy of going to.. if it's got good Dj's you like. i mean you wouldn't pay to see a concert of someone you don't even like.. $58 is alot 2 pay for a party but hey..what isn't expensive now? |

Ah but you see....
From experiance a lot of the locals are just as good as the out of towners.
And lets face it, I would pay 60 bux to see a live performance from a band (although maybe one or two bands only) cause that's what it is, a live performance. Do you think ATB is going to run around on stage screaming? Not really, cuz all ATB does is play records... I don't care about if it's the plazza or if it's the PNE. Cause quite frankly I haven't been to either (living pure, in ignorance). Sure I say I go for the music, most people say that (very few do in fact, cause I think that if you need drugs to enjoy music then well damn....) For me it's more an experiance then anything. There are a lot of locals, and most don't play at the plazza/riverside etc... Another hting that I find wrong with the plazza is the lack of variety of music. Smaller shows (I mean the real small shows, like the ones that aren't advertised, ie duckbot/raves are stupid) have balls when it comes to getting music. I also find playing at smaller shows better, cause I can do crazy things and get away with it Ie- Jel-low, I went on the mic and kept telling the crowd how they were a bunch of pussies (you should seen the mosh they tried starting....), then half way through ran into the crowd and started singing with them. If I had tried that at the plazza or pne, it would not go over so well. Also others can't do the same things. My friend Dave refueses to streak at larger shows. BUt that's my opinion, and it's all up to you... whatever floats yer boat. |

You make your own party...
I've been to the shittiest parties ever (cheap ass set-up, horrible music, bad vibes galore etc.), and had the time of my life... I've been to the best parties ever (great set-up, killer talent, great vibes etc.), and had the worst time of my life... Everyone's personal experience is different. The venue DOES seem to affect the crowd in one way or another, buuuuut, either way, like I said before, you make your own party. You control how you feel and how you approach the night. I'll be at Nasty, blue goth style. :) Partying it up twice as hard cause I missed Sunkissed. Erica :AZN: |

Most of the larger shows stick to a tried and true method of delivering the music the majority of the paying public like to hear. Gotta do this in order to pay the venue rental right?
This does make most of the larger shows sound almost the same due to the lack of variety. As for Dave streaking, I missed him the first time since I was sick. I wish I was there to back him up when he had his fishnets on though. :016: |
