I need everyones opinion

okay im getting a tatoo between my shoulder blades. it is going to be a kanji that has to do with me. i am not getting money or power or funk or music or anything like that. i am getting one that says "steel" (james steele is my name for those who don't know), however i have two to choose from. one says "steel", but is not proper japanese because there is sposed to be a descriptive kanji as well. the other one says "made of steel", but it is a lot of lines and i think i may prefer the single symbol.

what do you guys/GIRLS like better?

I prefer the 2nd (lower). Just make sure it's a close translation.

isnt the top one.. both the same thing just bolder? with the exception of 4 things...

except I'd prefer it to be in thinner lines.. but thats just me.

made of steal sounds kinda weird

just to let you know steal = "gong" in chinese

i have to agree with stabby.. not that they dont know what it means.. its just weird to see myself having latin/french across my back. im actually thinkin about gettin my chinese symbol done... then again..no thats not happening.

aesthetically.. i'd say go with the single symbol. Especially considering the place of the tattoo, it'll be more symmetrical and visually pleasing.
At least to people like me who are super picky about the elements and principles of design.

the first box you have there says "steel steel"
second says "made of steel"

thinner font looks better..

the first box was just two differnt fonts of it, i would have a japanese calligrapher make the symbol more aesthetically pleasing, while maintaining the meaning

the only reason made of steel is a possibility is as a tribute to my father. i am a lot like him in my beliefs and morals, and even though i haven't always listened to him, he is a big part of who i am.

if u looking for a tite asian tatooist and ur up here check out "the dutchman" he's loacated in new westminster......all my friends who have got dragons or asian text have gone to him and he is amazing.....

i like the top left. it the closest one to the traditional caligraphy.. the other ones look wayy too computer generated. :keebler:

Why don't you go to Chinatown and get a calligrapher to stroke your name onto a piece of paper with a proper ink brush and you have that traced on by the tattoo artist?

This way you get the proper brush strokes and it looks better than the 'clean' computerized font.

I had to trace my father's hardwriting and blow it up on a computer program so an engraver could put his name onto my watchcase.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Not in reference to this particular one, but I've seen a lot of people pick random flash characters off the wall in tattoo places... they don't even know if that's what it even means.
