Space Shuttle Explodes

"The space shuttle Columbia exploded over central Texas on Saturday soon after reentering the atmosphere en route to a landing at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, NBC Dallas affiliate KXAS reported. Video images obtained by the station showed the doomed shuttle descending at a severe trajectory and breaking apart as it plummeted to Earth."

Wierd...I still remember where I was when I heard that Challenger exploded, and it doesn't seem that long ago, even though it was over 15 years ago. I don't know why, but I always am quite saddened by things like this, more so than I probably should be.

i would change 'explodes' to 'broke up'.

though it's too early to tell, this is probably going to deal a great blow to the US space program, which is a shame. it was really the last high profile holdout of the US investing big bucks in pure scientific research.

the fact you're posting on the internet leads me to believe you have almost-instant access to news stories from hundreds of thousands of sources.

I know they do...

I guess it's 'cuz I still remember skipping school in the morning in 1981 at the ripe old age of 10 just to see the very first space shuttle launch ever. I've always been (even at that age) one to read a lot, especially the news and stuff, and it really seemed like it was ushering in a 'new age' of space exploration. So it's kinda something that has been with me most of my life, but started early enough that I can remember its beginnings.

So I guess that today's events kinda put a damper on 'the dream' that was formed from the Shuttle program...a dream that fuelled a lot of my imagination and stuff growing up. I know it won't kill the Shuttle program, but, like 1986, it will likely take NASA some time to recover from it.

^^ what's even worse is some human remains were found in the streets, along with the bits and pieces of the shuttle.

Why someone would take one? I don't know.. that's just weird. I wouldn't do it..

My dad's friends, his sister was on there.. Laurel Clark.

So sad..

i'd take a piece of the ship...only a small one though. not something that they might need to determine why it happened.

They didn't want people touching them and taking them because of chemicals and all that other stuff. They just didn't want anyone to get hurt by them.

They were up there doing a bunch of experiments (something like 80 or something??) so who knows what they had on that ship??
