Got to love the Dutch!
Many of the tour books list the Heineken Brewery as one of the best bargains in Europe. For fl2, you get a tour of the original brewery and polish it off with all the beer and finger foods you can consume in half an hour. In reality, however, its a large warehouse with a couple of surplus beer vats left over from the days when it was in use.
The don't make "tiny Hineys" here anymore, but do give out free beer.
It's redeeming quality is, of course, afterward, when you are herded into a large room and served ample quantities of beer. It's also a heck of a place to mingle with other visitors. Technically, you are supposed to leave when the next group arrives, but you can stay a bit longer. The brewery is located behind the Leidseplein and the tour runs weekdays at 10:30, 11, 1 and 2:30 June thru September (also at noon and 2 on Saturdays in July and August), and 9:30 and 11 from mid- September thru May.
