Boycotting V-day
This Valentines day, I challenge people to boycott this commercialized "holiday" and think more about celebrating and recognizing your love for your significant other, or even your friends, more often during the rest of 2003.
My bf and I personally have never celebrated it because we believe it is a scam....made for and by retailers. We spend the day/night together like any other, talk about how the past year has been, and just marvel at the good times we've had. I got a rose and another fake rose with a teddy bear yesterday because "It's cheaper now than on Valentines day". If you agree with boycotting Valentines Day because you don't have a 'significant other' to share it with, use the day to reflect on your sex and your sexuality. Especially for girls, read the V-Day special of the Vagina Monologues....it's great. Just a thought. I think Valentines day is a consumer joke and that people don't take enough time out of the year to share & express their love. *Jen* |

^^ I have no arguments with those challenges. Both of those are non-stat "holidays"...therefore nothing to celebrate.
FP, I will buy you a chocolate frog. miss myra, I recognize Christmas as a religious celebration, the birth of Christ, and it has always been regarded as an actual "holiday". Gifts are understandable then....but for V-day...? *Jen* |
