how do i get into webdesign?
so a bunch of people have looked at my art recently and said i shouldg etinto web design? and today my prof saw a bunch of pictures i made on the computer and said the same thing?
so how do i get into web design? and do i just draw shit on the computer and like...put it on a website? i'm so confused -s. |

yeah, you have really know all the different web design programs. and build sites for people and such first. then build a name for yourself. its hard. the school spit out a few hundred people a year with degrees in it.
so you have to make a site that blows everyone away. |

really? i didn't know that, john. i always thought they were the same thing? cool, you learn something new everyday. yeah i guess i'd rather get into graphic design. cuz i don't really know much about computers. i'm happy if i can turn mine on without making a mistake. so with graphic design, people come to me and say "we need this and this" and then i go draw it?
thanks guys...yeah by the sounds of it i web design is NOT my thing -s. |

sammy, one thing you should take into account is how powerful you would be if you took up web design (as a minor, alongside your major in whatever artisitc medium you've chosen). you've already got the artistic capabilities that a large chunk of web designers DON'T have. think of the advantage you would have.
you would be like a sammy+snyx ... that's a pretty scary thought for the competition. |

Sammy, theres very little money in webdesign. I tried it already, made like a few thousand over the course of like 2 years, which was alright because it was just a lil side thing i had going.
But yeah, very little money. Its all about supply and demand. Theres probably more companies that do webdesign then people needing to have it done. I was really good at it too...but that was back when i used to sit by computer about 16 hours a day every day and never go out. |

riot...i'd rather just transfer into the new media programme here at Ryerson and come away with a degree instead of paying 20 thousand bucks a year at VFS and not get a degree. besides, i think ryerson's facilities are slightly better than VFS.
i do have the option of switching into it since New Media and Photography are in a shared faculty. hmmmm i'll deffinatly have to look more into it. bob: thanks :) means a lot. maybe i'll take a summer course in Van at a community college and see what web design is all about. -s. |

VFS is a joke.
i have a degree in financial management, and i moved up 10 times faster in the film industry then anyone from VFS. we actually get our volunteer production assistants from there. so my advice. stay away from VFS. its a joke. go somewhere and get a degree. like you said. and yes, ryerson is much better, and the women are hotter in toronto. |
|
|||
the only thing hotter than women in TO are the guys in TO.
and yeah...i was gonna go to VFS but you're paying for the name and it's not even that great. Sure a handful of famous people went to VFS but Ryerson constantly turns out people who are at the top of the industry. so i'm staying here. ryerson good. VFS bad. -s. |

Ya know what, i'll i'm gonna say is,, If your good at what you do, you'll get work.. dosent matter what school has better people.. some peope suck at designing. some people are good. ya learn the same programs at any school.. you could even teach yourself.
|
|
|||
skill deffinatly has a lot to do with it. but if person A has tons of skill and person B has the same amount of skill...but person A has a degree, person A is gonna get hired.
and plus, since Ryerson is fairly high up in industry standards and such, it'd probably be easier to network and get hookups by going to a degree granting school. and yeah i totally agree...lots of stuff you can teach yourself. almost all the stuff i do...art and graphics is self taught but school just refines stuff you already have and makes you more well rounded. just my opinion. -s. |
|
|||
graphic designer all the way... thats where you encorporate computer design and artistic skills all in one. i found my dream DEGREE program the other day..went to an orientation spoke to a few students and i fell in love. graphic design for marketing... advertising..HERE I COME.
sammy...what programs do you use the most? |

bev: like i said...i'm a total amateur at this stuff so i'm only familiar with adobe photoshop. that's all i've used before. and i can deffinatly see you doing graphic design for marketting. i think that's what i kinda wanna get into...maybe just get my feet wet and see how i fair. but you deffinatly have an eye for graphic design.

you mean like on canvas?
hmmm actually that's a pretty cool idea. i even have like 4 or 5 blank canvases in my room. i dunno if abstract/free-form paint strokes would really be my thing though? i dunno. i'm more into clean lines and simple things. but doing something with it on canvas is a really good idea -s. |

bua is pretty damn good.
but his secret is. he's not in a rush. he takes months to do a painting. so he can do amazing detail and blending. most other famous urban painters try to crank them out as fast as they can, so they can make tons of cash while they are hot. but bua will be around a while, as he already has actually. |
