Is This Even Remotely Legal???
ok at my new job...at my interview they basically made it clear to me that i'm not allowed to take time off which was fine with me at the time because i just need money at the moment, but also..the manager told me it is their policy that staff members aren't allowed to call in sick(wtf??) and a freind of mine who also works there was really really sick yet she still went into work because she was following the rules, but the next day she was even more sick so she called in ...and now because of that they cut her on the schedule from 5 days a week to 2 days a week, and one of the managers even admitted to her that this was the reason she has been cut...i know it makes no sense but i'm dead serious
and now i'm fuckin so sick yet i know there is no way i can call in sick this weekend..this fuckin sucks :soak: |

That makes no sense. Unless people were constantly calling in sick with no proof whatsoever and this was causing a problem, I don't understand how they can tell you not to call in sick? This is still kind of ridiculous, considering a majority of the people working with my friends are adults, but they had problems with that and just said they'd need a note from a doctor when you came back to work. That's alot better than not being able to call in at all. Some people get really sick and need their rest. They also shouldn't be in places like the workplace so as to avoid spreading whatever they have to OTHER employees or even customers. that's fuckjing bullshit. I say you do some real research (real as in checking things out with people who deal with this stuff for a living) and find out if they can do that because that sounds completely ridiculous. And you can't cut someones hours down to less than half because they got sick once.
Thats bullshit |

If your friend is legitimatly sick, tell her to go the doctors and get a doctors note... When she goes in to the doctors, ask her to explain the situation with her work and then have him write a note that will confirm she is sick... Hopefully that will help.
Good luck! |

i think they're saying that to prevent people from calling in sick when they've just got the sniffles or something
it's a minimum wage job...don't slack off, but don't freak out bout stuff like that if you get fired, which is unlikely, get another job |

aki i know i hate it there and im quitting next weeek,
but today i was pretty lucky cuz i dragged myself into work even though i've got strep throat and they realized i was ill so they let me go home...but i think they only did it cuz it was so slow and they wanted someone to leave so they woodnt have to pay as much wages (thats my guess cuz i overheard the managers say they wanted someone to go home) |

Yeah.
I can't call in 'sick' to my job either....they think it's easy to find people to cover your shifts...and I work in an office- asking someone to come in and do menial tasks for 8 hours on a fucking Saturday isn't easy. Eh, but welcome to the real world, no less.. |

^^ it's hard to get a new job after you've been FIRED for not showing up for your shifts, sick or not.
Some employers don't care, and other places there's just not enough staff to cover a shift if someone calls in. In cases like that, they basically force you to work while you're sick. Myra's right, thats the way it is. Suck it up and deal with it. |
